2015 Local Course Guide Date of issue: January 2015 This qualification provides the skills required for competence in remedial massage practice and practitioners at this level may be self employed as independent practitioners or may work within a larger health service. It covers the provision of remedial massage treatment to clients with specific needs such as injury management, rehabilitation, palliative care, aged care, women and children. Practitioners at this level may supervise other massage therapists. The assessment process may include a combination of presentations, reports, projects, questioning, case studies, scenarios, demonstrations and observation in the simulated massage clinic and/or workplace. Learners are advised of the assessment requirements at the beginning of each unit. Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) A learner may be entitled to gain unit of competency credits or recognition, if what they have learned at work, from other programs, courses, from life experience or training provided at work is relevant to the course. SCEI recognises the AQF qualifications and statements of attainment issued by other registered training organisations. This can be demonstrated via the following: Aged 18 years or above Successful completion of Year 11 or the equivalent level of study Successful completion of SCEI’s Language Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) Indicator Mature aged who have diverse academic, work and life experiences are encouraged to enrol. The definition of a mature aged students for SCEI’s purposes is a person over 21 years of age that hasn’t been studying at either year 12 level or university/ TAFE level for at least 7 years and are an Australian or New Zealand citizen (or Australian permanent resident or holder of a permanent Humanitarian Visa).
