This qualification provides the skills required for competence in remedial massage practice and practitioners at this level may be self employed as independent practitioners or may work within a larger health service. It covers the provision of remedial massage treatment to clients with specific needs such as injury management, rehabilitation, palliative care, aged care, women and children. Practitioners at this level may supervise other massage therapists.

AssessmentAssessment is both formative and summative and a holistic approach has been applied where possible. The assessment process may include a combination of presentations, reports, projects, questioning, case studies, scenarios, demonstrations and observation in the simulated massage clinic and/or workplace. Learners are advised of the assessment requirements at the beginning of each unit.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)A learner may be entitled to gain unit of competency credits or recognition, if what they have learned at work, from other programs, courses, from life experience or training provided at work is relevant to the course. Entry requirementsTo gain entry into this Diploma course the individual must demonstrate competence through a recognised training program or recognition process, in the following 14 units of competency from the HLT40312 Certificate IV in Massage Therapy Practice:• BSBWOR203B Work effectively with others• HLTAP401B Confirm physical health status• HLTCOM404C Communicate effectively with clients• HLTCOM406C Make referrals to other health care
professionals when appropriate

Individuals would also need to demonstrate a capacity to undertake study at Diploma level. This can be demonstrated via the following:• Aged 18 years or above• Successful completion of Year 11 or the equivalent
level of study• Successful completion of SCEI’s Language Literacy
and Numeracy (LLN) Indicator• Mature aged who have diverse academic, work
and life experiences are encouraged to enrol. The definition of a mature aged students for SCEI’s purposes is a person over 21 years of age that hasn’t been studying at either year 12 level or university/TAFE level for at least 7 years and are an Australian or New Zealand citizen (or Australian permanent resident or holder of a permanent Humanitarian Visa).
