H.N.GUJ. UNIVERSITY PROGRAMMERS CHOICE BASED CREDIT SYSTEMS (CBCS)

REGULATIONS

Prepared by the H.N.Guj. Uni. Rural Studies committee on 9th June-2011

There Regulations shall be called H.N.Guj., Patan regulations governing under

Graduate programmes under the choice Based credit system (CBCS) the choice Based

credit system is offered only to the students admitted in Rural Studies Campus H.N.Guj.

Uni., Patan from the Academic year-2011-12.

These Regulations shall come in to force from the academic year 2011-12. Recommendations of the P.G. Rural Studies The recommendations focus on the following aspects.

Semester system

Choice Based credit system

Curriculum development

Examination Reforms

Administrative reforms

The Semester systems :-

An academic year consists of two semesters. The odd semester (I and III semester)

may be scheduled from July to November and even semester (II and IV semester) from

December to April every year.

The choice Based credit system :-

It is flexible system of acquisition and imparting of knowledge based on the

choices. It provides opportunities to students and teachers to have more space for

choosing courses suiting their academic preferences and interests. The essential

ingredients of good education process include freedom, quality, excellence and

relevance.

There shall be following categories of courses in the rural studies Post graduate

programme.

(1) CORE COURSES :-

A course which shall compulsorily be studied by a candidate to complete the requirements of a degree in a said programme of study is defined as a core course.

(2) Elective course :-

Generally course which can be chosen form a pool of courses and which may be very specific and supportive to the discipline of study to the social science skill is called an elective course.

(3) Interdisciplinary courses (Foundation Course) :-

Soft skill courses with special emphasis on proficiency in language an English / Computer in knowledge management and allied related subjects.

FACULTY OF RURAL STUDIES Course of Study

For THE DEGREE Master OF RURAL STUDIES- (M.R.S.)

(TWO YEARS Course disbursed in FOUR SEMESTERS Degree Course)

The Objective of the course is “To provide higher education in rural areas and to develop rural society and the nation”

O.M.R.S.-1

A candidate for the degree of Master of Rural Studies must have passed the B.R.S. certificate examination of the any Recognized Universities.

O.M.R.S.-2 Admission to first semester M.R.S will be granted to an applicant who is eligible to apply for admission to first semester M.R.S. strictly in order of merit determined on the basis of marks or rules laid by central admission committee of the University

O.M.R.S.-3 An affiliated college or P.G. Center conducting M.R.S. course will not be allowed to admit more than 35 students to first semester M.R.S. course as per the University rules.

O.M.R.S.-4 Medium of instruction & examination shall be Gujarati.

R.M.R.S.-1 The duration of this course will be of two years divided in to four semester. This will be full time course and candidate admitted to this course will not be allowed to join any other course simultaneously. R.M.R.S.-2 The candidate admitted to first semester M.R.S. will be eligible to appear at the university examination provided to he/she fulfills the following conditions. She/he fulfils conditions of minimum 75% attendance as laid down in ordinance of the H.N.G.U., Patan university.

R.M.R.S.-3 The scheme of examination and distribution of marks for the various subjects of study at the first, second, third and fourth semester M.R.S. examination under two years course will be shown in the course structure. R.M.R.S.-4 The CBCS is not only student centric in the teaching learning processes but is also their evaluation process. In CBCS the evaluation process is divided in to two parts under the CBCS. The first part consists of Internal evaluation (IE) and the second part consists of the semester examination. The division of marks between the two shall be as per the University rules . In the CBCS, the evaluation process shall follow the norm that the faculty , who teaches the course, shall conduct the internal evaluation (IE) and the semester end examination (SEE). The concerned faculty shall be accountable for transparency and reliability of the entire evaluation of the student in the concerned course.

4.1. The framework for internal evaluation (IE) & external evaluation (SEE) Although assessment and evaluation process in CBCS is in continuous mode,

for the purpose of finally letting the candidate know his/her progress periodically an assessment is divided in to four discrete components for reporting the scores to the student as earned by him or her.

The details of the continuous Assessment are summarized in the Table below.

R.M.R.S.-5 Promotion Re-admission Rules : 5.1. Rules of promotion shall be as under. 5.1.1. Student under goes a regular course of study and fulfills the

required criterion of attendance and secures minimum 12 marks in the internal assessment component of each course.

5.1.2. Student has a required minimum 40 marks in the external assessment

component of each course.

5.2. Rules and the procedure for granting Re-admission to the student shall be as under.

5.2.1. Student had no required attendance, not cleared the required number

of courses and not completing a semester continued to the programme from where he/she had left it.

5.2.2. A student who had put in not less than 40% of attendance in a

semester and not registered for the examination shall be considered for the re- admission in the same semester.

5.2.3. Such re-admissions shall be granted by the principal of the concerned

collage directly, subject to the fulfillment of the following conditions.

(a) The concerned teachers have granted the attendance of the course in each semester.

(b) The student shall complete the programme within double the duration of the programme from the year of the original admission.

(c) No re-admission shall be granted after the first four weeks of the semester in which he/she is seeking admission.

5.2.4. Re-admission shall not be applicable to the programme in which admission is granted by a central admission committee.

5.2.5. The Four semester programme shall be completed by a studebt within

double the duration of normal programme period (i.e. 4 years)

R.M.R.S.-6 Awards of Grades :

6.1. Credit means the unit by which the course work is measured. In these regulation are credit means one hour of teaching work.

6.2. Grade letter is an index to indicate the performance of student in a

particulate course is the transformation of actual marks secured by a student in a course/paper. It is indicated by a grade letter O, A, B, C, D, E and F. There is a range of marks for each grade letter.

6.3 Award of Grades :

R.M.R.S.- 7 Rules for selection of elective subject : 7.1 The elective subject shall be offered to students looking to the availability of

the teachers in a particular college or nearly colleges. 7.2 Out of the title offered under a particular elective subject, the number of

students should be distributed equally. 7.3 The distribution of students in titles offered under a particular elective

subject may be variable within the range of 10 percent.

4) Every project is a part of syllabus of students so certain whole days

would be given to a certain project. If a student fails to complete the

project in given period, his/her project will not be evaluated and he/she

would have to complete the same in rest of the days as instructed by the

institute. Only then the whole result will be declared.
