Holy Family Cristo Rey Catholic High School...

“A $500,000 gift has made it possible for Samford University to fully endow a fund that will enhance its involvement with Birmingham’s Holy Family Cristo Rey High School (HFCR).

The interest that spins off the endowed fund will allow about five students from the Catholic high school to be interns at Samford each year, according to Samford advancement officer Stacy Gay. “This is a wonderful gift and will be a great investment for the Samford community,” Gay said. The gift’s donors wish to remain anonymous.” Read the full article here.

Welcome...

Holy Cross Province welcomes two Passionists from the Province of the Sacred Side of Jesus in Italy who will minister in Houston and Birmingham.

Fr. Antonio Curto, C.P., was ordained on October 6, 1977. Antonio has been involved in a variety of ministries, worked in our Generalate as personal secretary to two General Superiors, and as General Secretary for our overseas Passionist Missions. He served as Provincial Superior, 2003-2011. Additionally, Antonio has assisted at different parishes in the United States and Canada. Last year during Lent and Holy Week, he helped Guillermo Castillo at St. Joseph Parish in Birmingham, Alabama. An-tonio will work with Joe Castro on the Instituto Pasionista de Espiritualidad program.

Fr. Patricio Manosalvas, C.P., was ordained a priest on November 20, 2004. Since his ordination, he has served as associate pastor of St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Virgin Parish in Bari, Italy, and later as a vice-director of students at Ss. John and Paul in Rome. He served as Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation (JPIC) coordinator for his Province and liaison to the Passionist JPIC International. An Exciting New Future...

Old meets new. Windows from the monsatery were bricked up to

accommodate an emergency stairwell in the new section of the building.

Senior Suites of Norwood Park, the former Immaculate Conception Monastery, celebrated a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony on Thursday, January 22. Don Webber was invited to offer the invocation. Robert Gawronski, |representing the developer, Senior Lifestyles, and who worked with the Passionists to reach a sale agreement, was the Master of Ceremonies. State, county, city and business officials offered words of congratulations. Mary O’Connor, Alderman for the 41st Ward, was one of the speakers. There are 84 apartments in the complex, and 54 are already occupied. Some of the residents were the greeters at the front door and others gave tours after the ceremony. It was a wonderful ceremony prepared by Senior Lifestyles. Many thanks to all who made us feel welcome. Congratulations!

Charism Conversation...Nashville, Tennessee

Board Members from the Office of Mission Effectiveness (OME), continue to conduct Charism Conversations with our Passionist family across the Province. These conversations are an opportunity to engage in dialogue with those who love and are deeply committed to the vision of St. Paul of the Cross.

Mr. Ken Schmitt, director of the Nashville Community of Passionist Partners (CPP), warmly welcomed about forty participants to the Cathedral of the Incarnation in downtown Nashville on Friday evening, January 9, and Saturday morning, January 10, for a stimulating and most enjoyable time. OME Board Members Capper Rademaker, MD, and Arthur Carrillo joined OME Director, Jack Conley in leading the sessions.

Jack said that the Nashville gathering offered particularly helpful insights, as they were able to listen to people from a place where we do not have a permanent Passionist presence.

Rachel Hughes and Elizabeth Earthman.
