Altar Server Training
There will be a training for Altar Servers on Saturday, April 28 9AM-11AM in the Church. Fr. Roy will be joining us on this day! Please contact Anthony Corpuz at [email protected] or 253-737-8973 and let him know you are coming.
Dear Parishioners, “With that their eyes were open and they recognized Him, but He vanished from their sight.” Luke 24:31
The month of May is the "month which the piety of the faithful has especially dedicated to Our Blessed Lady," and it is the occasion for a "moving tribute of faith and love in every part of the world to the Queen of Heaven. During this month Christians, both in church and in the privacy of the home, offer up to Mary from their hearts an especially fervent and loving homage of prayer and veneration. In this month, too, the benefits of God's mercy come down to us from her throne in greater abundance" (Paul VI: Encyclical on the Month of May, no. 1).
Holy Family School starts the Month of May with our traditional May Crowning on May 1, at 2pm. The prayer service honors Mary and her call to saying yes as the Mother of God. The 8th and 2nd grade classes align the Mary statue in the church and an 8th grade student crowns Mary with a flower crown. Following the service the students meet in communities and pray the rosary lead by the 7th graders. Please come join us May 1st! Throughout May we will honor Mary and her appearances.
Each month we recognize students who model the school’s SLEs. March’s SLE is “Make sound decisions, obey laws, and work for social justice. (Primary grades: Make wise choices).” April’s SLEs is “Demonstrate the ability to plan and complete tasks; (Primary grades: Follows directions and complete tasks).”
Our SLEs are life long skills we work hard helping our students know the important life skills Jesus calls us to model daily. These skills carry across all aspects of the students day: in the class, at recess, lunch, school masses, assemblies, and before/after school activities. We are proud when students model these behaviors and we try to guide them when they forget or miss the point. We also appreciate the family support and reinforcement of our school’s SLEs. After all, Jesus was the perfect model of how to treat others and to do our best. Thank you for being a part of our school and all we believe in.

Wednesday Families: After a week off for spring break we were so glad to see so many of our families return. However, our attendance was at an all-time low for this year. We understand there are many events that happen between now and the end of the school year, but we hope to continue to serve the spiritual journey of your child through the end of May. There are many fun events coming up in our program, but we also like to complete end of the year assessments and absences make this process tricky!
Highlights from 4/18/2018 PK Gage-This little preschool class learned about how God created sea creatures and about the story of Jesus and the Fishermen. PK Delude- The other preschool class also heard the story of Jesus and the Fishermen and made fun ocean pictures. K-Kindergarten discussed all the different items and people they see in the church. They visited the chapel to look for some of the items they discussed including the holy water font, altar, ambo, crucifix, tabernacle, and many more. They created a fun stained glass project with melted crayons to go along with this church lesson. 1-First grade had a sub this evening and had a nice calm night watching some Veggie Tale shows that help them better understand some different scripture lessons. 2-Second grade is so close to First Communion and they are busy preparing. Tonight’s lesson was on the second part of the Mass-Eucharist. They talked about how we give thanks and praise for all the gifts God gives us and present our gift to Him. They also learned about the Eucharistic prayer. 3-Third grade has started an introduction to the Ten Commandments. They focused on the first three in which we are called to love and respect God. 4-This class continues their study of sacraments and tonight learned about the Sacraments of Healing. 5- Fifth grade focused on the Holy Spirit tonight and talked about Confirmation. 6-The oldest group in our building was also the smallest class tonight and they discussed penance and reconciliation. In the next two weeks they will also prepare to lead our entire program in saying a complete rosary with the Luminous Mysteries.
Sunday Families: Last week our Sunday preschoolers learned all about how they can feel. They talked all about the different feelings we experience as humans, they talked about how they can make others feel good about themselves, and they made feeling puppets. At this age, many children do not have the words to always express how they feel, so learning about different kinds of feelings including facial expressions helps them to better understand how they can function in our world. Upcoming Events Children’s Ministry Rosary led by 6th grade (all are welcome to attend): May 2nd 6:45-7:15pm in the church May 30th 6:45-8pm Children’s Ministry End of the year Prayer Service and Potluck event please bring food to share!

Young Adult Connection
Coffee Hour Service
Our Young Adults were happy to serve our parishioners with special flavored coffee and tea during Coffee Hour last week, together with their favorite doughnuts. Its was nice to see happy faces as they were treated with a cup of espresso, latte, Americano or cappuccino after mass last Sunday. Special thanks to everyone who came to support us on our service day and to the Knights of Columbus for the opportunity to co-host the Coffee hour with you!
We will meet again this Sunday, April 29, from 12-2 PM in the parish office to plan our upcoming events for the rest of the Easter season. More fun activities still to come and enjoy. We always welcome any other young adults in the parish community who wish to join our activities. For any questions or interest, please call Jocelyn at 253-833-5130 Ext. 205 at the parish Youth Office.
YOUTHLIFE NEWS
Youthlife Meetings
Apr. 30, Mon., 6:30 – 8:00 PM for High School May 2, Wed., 6:30 – 7:45 PM for Junior High
This month is about to end and as we approach the month of May, the end of our Youthlife school year is also fast approaching. Please try your best to attend our Youthlife meetings so we can make the most of our last few weeks together in sharing about our life in Christ and learning the teachings of our faith. We look forward to seeing you again next week. Our Faith Formation May calendar will be available in our Youthlife meetings.
On this Fifth Sunday of Easter, Jesus calls himself the true Vine who offers true life which comes from God and which results in great fruitfulness. As his branches, let us be sure to be firmly rooted in God and his life-giving word by following his commandments. Jesus says there can be no fruit in our lives apart from him. The fruits he speaks of here is the fruit of the Holy Spirit. What can we do to bear the fruit of love, joy and peace this week?
Teen First Communion We are excited for the following Junior High and High School teens who will be receiving the Sacrament of First Holy Communion on Sunday, May 20, at the 1 PM Mass: Jorge Reyes Jr, Oscar Padilla, Feliyah-Fae Azur and Rocelle Calvez. A Biblical Walk Through the Mass How many times have you attended Mass? Did you ever stopped to wonder why we say specific prayers? Or why we stand, or sit or kneel at different times? What does all this mean? Did you ever wish you could “get more” out of our Mass? In this study we will walk through the main parts of the Mass and consider them in light of their Scriptural background. The goal of this study is to give you a deeper understanding of how Jesus in present in every prayer and gesture in the liturgy.
The study written by Dr. Edward Sri will take place in the Parish Center on Tuesday evenings beginning at 7:00 pm or on Wednesday mornings beginning at 9:30 am beginning on May 22 and May 23. The fee is only $20 which covers the cost of your class materials. Registration forms are at the entrances of the Church. Please join us on this deeper journey into our Catholic faith.

Vacation Bible School: Volunteers needed! Plunge in to VBS 2018 coming to
Holy Family this summer July 16th
-20th. At Splash Canyon VBS, your
children will learn God keeps His
promises on life’s wild ride! They’ll
look in to the Bible and explore
five Bible accounts where our
faithful God keeps His promises
to be with us and gives us life and hope through Jesus, our
Savior. If you can help full or part time, we have many
ways to be involved to suit your schedule and interests. At
this time, we would like to gather as many volunteers (sixth
grade through adult) at possible so that we know how many
children we can accommodate in our program ages 3 (potty
-trained) through fifth grade. We currently have a games
and crafts leader but are still in need of a music leader(s)
storytelling, bible verse leader and preschool leaders;
please consider helping this summer with this fun program.
Please call Lindsay Carter at 253-833-5130 or e-mail
[email protected], for more information. Join us
to see that all God’s promises are Yes in Jesus!
