MEET FR. MARK

Hello Holy Family!

My name is Fr. Mark Tracy. I will be your new Pastor beginning the weekend of August 21-22. I have been a priest now for a little over 3 years. The Priesthood has been an immense joy so far and I am excited that the Lord Jesus now brings me to Holy Family in Decatur.

A little background information on me, I originally grew up in Mount Sterling, IL, where I attended St. Mary's grade school and Brown County High School. I am one of four children of my parents, Jim and Jil Tracy. We attended Mass and religious formation as a family at Holy Family Parish in Mount Sterling. After high school, I attended the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign with a degree in Recreation, Sport, and Tourism Management (hopefully I find some use for it now as Pastor).

After college, I worked for a bit in Indianapolis and after a few months I knew the Lord Jesus was inviting me to give seminary a chance and explore the possibility of Priesthood. I attended St. Meinrad Seminary and School of Theology in Southern Indiana for the six years and my first as-signment as a priest was at St. Anthony in Effingham and St Mary of the Annunciation in Shum-way. In my spare time, I love golfing, hiking, playing sports, traveling, watching Cardinals baseball, reading, and hanging out with friends and family. Looking forward to beginning August 21-22! See you then!

In Christ Mercy, Fr. Mark Tracy

PRAYER FOR PROTECTION FROM THE CORONA VIRUS Our Father Who Art In Heaven, please blanket our nation in protection from the Corona virus. Thank you for healing our land and protecting those who are most vulnerable. Give peace to those who struggle with loneliness and isolation, and endurance to the many businesses that are affected by our feeble attempts to control Corona. Come to the bedside of those who are struggling with the effects of contracting the virus. Please protect and give guidance to those healthcare work-ers who place themselves in danger caring for the sick. Hear our prayer O Lord. We pray this in the powerful and victorious name of your only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ of Nazareth, Amen.

ATTENTION—ROSARY & MASS The Rosary WILL NOT be live-streamed daily, but the daily Masses & the 10 a.m. weekend Masses WILL CONTINUE to be live-streamed. We wel-come the priests from Our Lady of Lourdes who will be here for sacramen-tal duties until Fr. Mark arrives. If you need spiritual assistance in any way, please call OLOL at 217-877-4404.

PROTECTING GOD’S CHILDREN CLASSES

All parents of children who are attending Holy Family School & who will be volunteering at the school or parish will need the class. Grandparents are also encouraged to take the class. If you are thinking of vol-unteering, we encourage you to take this class. You only have to take it once, and after your background check, you are ready to volunteer! Please call the rectory at 423-6223 to sign up.

ONLINE TRAINING SESSIONS AVAILABLE! The Diocese of Springfield is offering online Protecting God’s Children Classes to anyone who needs to take it and would like to do so virtually. Once registered and assigned, you will be given 30 days to take the class at your convenience. What a great way to get the class completed at a time and place that is favorable for you. To get more information, please contact Joanne Kater at 423-6223.

OUR LADY OF LOURDES MASS AND CONFESSION CHANGES

Effective beginning the weekend of August 14-15, at Our Lady of Lourdes, will discontinue the 1 pm Span-ish Mass. The 11:30 Mass will then become the Spanish Mass, and the 11:30 English Mass will be discontin-ued. The Mass schedule at St. Thomas will be reduced to Sunday at 10 am only. An evening weekday Mass will now be offered at St. Thomas at 5:15 pm. Confession times for both parishes will change. Our Lady of Lourdes, will now have Confessions on Thurs-days from 12-1:00 pm, and on Saturday from 11-12:00 pm. Confessions at St. Thomas will be on Sundays from 9:15-9:45 am, and Tuesdays from 4:15-5:00 pm.

A BIG THANK YOU to Fr. Friedel , who has been our Parochial Administrator, for his leadership during this interim time between Fr. Joe leaving for his new assignment and Fr. Mark Tracy arriving. We are grateful for Fr. Michael Friedel, Fr. Michael Trummer, Fr. Christopher Trummer and Fr. Rick Weltin for celebrating Masses with us and conducting funeral services.

Please let us know to stop your monthly envelopes being mailed to you as this saves the parish even more money. Several people have requested a way to know if there are any “extra” collections going on since they do not receive envelopes any longer. We will list these in the bulletin each month now.
