Dear Holy Family Parishioners,
What an exciting time we are in!
Over the last two weeks we have had over 200
students experience two powerful sacraments of
initiation. Half of them received the Holy Eucharist for
the first time, and the others were brought fully in union
with the Church through the sacrament of Confirmation.
And the timing is exquisite! Because this week we
celebrate the great Feast of the Ascension! And
Ascension Thursday happens this year to occur on the
anniversary of the appearance of Our Lady of Fatima.
All of these tremendously important events converge to
show us the mighty Love and Power of God.
Just before He ascended into heaven, Jesus issued the
Great Commission. He commanded that we “Go into
the whole world and proclaim the gospel to every
creature.” But He provided us with the necessary
gifts we need to carry out this mission. Through the
Holy Eucharist, He provisions us for this mission. He
shares directly with us His Body, Blood, Soul and
Divinity. He insures that we have the Grace
necessary to sustain us. He demonstrates His
perfect love by holding nothing back, and sharing
Himself with us completely.
After Jesus ascended to be with His Father, the two
of them sent the Holy Spirit to be with us, and bless
us with His special gifts and graces. As one of the
alternate readings for Ascension Thursday tells us, if
we accept His gifts, and we work with Him, and with
each other, that we can win the world for Him.
And he gave some as apostles, others as
prophets, others as evangelists, others as
pastors and teachers, to equip the holy ones
for the work of ministry, for building up the
body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity
of faith and knowledge of the Son of God, to
mature to manhood, to the extent of the full
stature of Christ.
Especially in the sacrament of Confirmation, He
bestows these gifts upon us. He offers them to us to
help us to cope with the travails of this world, to
strengthen us to better serve Him, and to live as He
intends us. The gifts are ours for the asking. Using
them as He wishes is our gift back to God. And it is
important to remember that we can never out-give
God! The more we draw close to Him, the more He
bestows on us.
The anniversary of Our Lady’s first appearance at
Fatima reminds us that God holds nothing back from
us...He shares even His own mother with us. When
Mary appeared to the three children in Portugal, she
knew we needed the care and attention only a
mother can give, so she gave us a path to follow to
be closer to her Son. With the gifts of the rosary and
the prayers she taught Lucia and Francesco and
Jacinta, we are taken under her mantle.
If we simply accept these wonderful gifts offered to
us by God; the gifts of the Eucharist, of Confirmation,
the Special gifts of the Holy Spirit and the protection
of Jesus’ mother, there is nothing we cannot
accomplish. God is offering us something much
greater than the wealth or success of the world. He
is offering His own Self again, and coming to share
with us His immeasurable love. If we humbly accept
these amazing offerings, there is nothing else that
we could desire.
Let us go and love God with all our hearts, with all
our souls, with all our minds and with all our
strength. Then we shall live lives pleasing to Him,
and fulfill our true purpose on earth.
With Love and Prayers,

SCRIPTURE READINGS FOR THE SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER
READING 1 ACTS 10:25-26, 34-35, 44-48
When Peter entered, Cornelius met him and, falling at his feet, paid
him homage. Peter, however, raised him up, saying, “Get up. I
myself am also a human being.”
Then Peter proceeded to speak and said, “In truth, I see that God
shows no partiality. Rather, in every nation whoever fears Him and
acts uprightly is acceptable to Him.”
While Peter was still speaking these things, the Holy Spirit fell upon
all who were listening to the word. The circumcised believers who
had accompanied Peter were astounded that the gift of the Holy
Spirit should have been poured out on the Gentiles also, for they
could hear them speaking in tongues and glorifying God. Then
Peter responded, “Can anyone withhold the water for baptizing
these people, who have received the Holy Spirit even as we have?”
He ordered them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ.
RESPONSORIAL PSALM 98:1, 2-3, 3-4
R. The Lord has revealed to the nations His saving power.
Sing to the Lord a new song, for He has done wondrous deeds;
His right hand has won victory for Him, His holy arm.
R. The Lord has revealed to the nations His saving power.
The Lord has made His salvations known: in the sight of the na-
tions He has revealed His justice. He has remembered His kind-
ness and His faithfulness toward the house of Israel.
R. The Lord has revealed to the nations His saving power.
All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation by our God.
Sing joyfully to the Lord, all you lands; break into song, sing
praise.
R. The Lord has revealed to the nations His saving power.
READING 2 1 JN 4:7-10
Beloved, let us love one another, because love is of God; everyone
who loves is begotten by God and knows God. Whoever is without
love does not know God, for God is love. In this way the love of
God was revealed to us: God sent his only Son into the world so
that we might have life through Him. In this is love: not that we have
loved God, but that He loved us and sent his Son as expiation for
our sins.
JN 14:23
R. Alleluia, alleluia
Whoever loves Me will keep My word, says the Lord, and my
Father will love him and we will come to him.
R. Alleluia, alleluia
GOSPEL JN 15:9 -17
Jesus said to his disciples: “As the Father loves me, so I also love
you. Remain in My love. If you keep my commandments, you will
remain in My love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments
and remain in His love.
“I have told you this so that My joy may be in you and your joy
might be complete. This is my commandment: love one another as I
love you. No one has greater love than this, to lay down one’s life
for one’s friends. You are My friends if you do what I command you.
I no longer call you slaves, because a slave does not know what his
master is doing. I have called you friends, because I have told you
everything I have heard from my Father. It was not you who chose
me, but I who chose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit that
will remain, so that whatever you ask the Father in my name He
may give you. This I command you: love one another.”
Mayo, Mes De La Santísima Virgen Maria (primera parte).
nosotros llegamos a Cristo.
llegar a Jesús.

There will be a second collection next week for Catholic Relief Services. For
more than 75 years, CRS has been providing expertise and compassion to the
very poorest of our brothers and sisters in more than 100 countries. This

PENTECOST & HOLY SPIRIT NOVENA
To celebrate Pentecost, the descent of the Holy Spirit on the
Church, Holy Family Parish is requesting that you join us in
the Holy Spirit Novena. This Novena is the oldest of all
novenas since it was first made at the direction of Our Lord
Himself when He sent His apostles back to Jerusalem to
await the coming of the Holy Spirit on the first Pentecost. It is
still the only novena officially prescribed by the Church.
We can prepare for the coming of the Holy Spirit and ask for
the seven gifts – wisdom, knowledge, understanding,
counsel, piety, fortitude, and fear of the Lord, by praying the
Novena beginning on Friday, May 14th and concluding on
Saturday, May 22nd. It's a powerful and meaningful prayer
that is meant to help us open ourselves up to the third
person of the Holy Trinity. We hope you will join with us for
this very special prayer.
All parishes will have Holy Spirit Novena booklets to hand out
at the Ascension of the Lord Masses or they can be picked
up or sent to you. Call Joyce at X209 if you want one sent
out.

NEW SAFETY POLICIES
The Safety Team met on April 27
th
to review safety
policies. Starting last weekend, we are no longer taking
temperature scans. Also, multiple exits will now be used.
If you are directed by an usher to an exit that will be a
hardship for you for medical or other reasons, please let
the usher know when you arrive or as you exit that you
would need to exit a different door.
Also, starting in June, we are discontinuing the pre-
registration sign up process and additional changes as
State and Diocesan protocols are adjusted. We will share
those in the bulletin and at Mass later this month. Thanks
to all parishioners and especially our ushers/greeters for
keeping us all safe and following all protocols.

ALTAR SERVING TRAINING FOR “NEW” SERVERS
Boys and girls currently in the 3rd grade and up are invited to become
Holy Family Parish Altar Servers! This training is available for "new" Altar
Servers.
You must pre-register. Sign-ups are limited to 5 servers per session due to pandemic restrictions
and social distancing. A 1-hour session will be held on Monday, 5/17 @ 7 PM at SJAN (after Mass), with
more to be scheduled.
More information on training and the signup link is on the Altar Server portion of the website,
https://holyfamilypgh.org/altar-server-sign-up. See you there!
.
Technology Ministry
is looking for YOU!
Technology Ministry proved to be invaluable during the past year with
the pandemic and merger. Livestreaming 9AM Mass each day,
weekend Mass from every church, special events, weddings, funerals
and parish seminars takes a strong volunteer team.
We continue to expand our ministry and enhance our technology to
bring Mass to our remote parishioners. This is also a way for potential
new parishioners to find out more about us and will therefore be a
continued part of our parish outreach.
With updated equipment installed at both St. Joseph and St. Irenaeus
(and soon at Our Lady of Joy), we now have similar setups at three of
our churches. Serving as a Technology Minister at Holy Family Parish
is getting easier and more exciting! Please consider joining us!
To learn more about the Technology Ministry, please contact our
Technology Manager Rich Myler at [email protected].
We are growing – and we could use your help
as a Technology Minister!
SAM – Substance Addiction Ministry
The next Substance Addiction Ministry Rosary for Recovery will be Wednesday, May 19 at Christ The
Divine Shepherd Parish, North American Martyrs Church, 2526 Haymaker Rd., Monroeville, PA 15146.
We will meet at 7:00PM in the Church for the Rosary for all who are afflicted or affected by addiction and
seeking education, referral and support. Please wear a mask and we are to adhere to all social distancing
guidelines. For more information please contact Noreen at 412-296-1709.

MISSION STATEMENT FOR OUR HOLY FAMILY PARISH
Our Pastoral Council has finalized Vision and Mission Statements for our parish. A
Vision Statement is more about who we want to be. A Mission Statement is how we
plan to become what we want to be.
Mission Statement - Holy Family Parish, established in a time of change, is called
by the Father and empowered by the Holy Spirit to bring all to Christ. We seek to
bridge established Catholics together with those who are new and young to the faith
by: Sharing in the Eucharist, Teaching God’s Word, Witnessing and inspiring service
to others; and Building a dynamic faith community.
Jesus, Mary and Joseph, Pray for us!
Kaden Nicholas Maltese—OLOJ
Living Jesus Prayer
Heavenly Father, pour forth your Holy Spirit to inspire us with words from Holy
Scripture. Stir in our souls the desire to renew our faith and deepen our
relationship with your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ so that we might truly believe
in and live the Good News. Open our hearts to hear the Gospel and grant us
the confidence to proclaim the Good News to others. Pour out your Spirit, so
that we might be strengthened to deepen our faith, grow in confidence to
proclaim the Gospel, and boldly witness to the saving grace of Your Son,
Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one
God, for ever and ever. Amen.
