Holy Name of Jesus

THE SOLEMNITY OF THE MOST HOLY TRINITY

Today’s Gospel is from the beginning of John’s Gospel. The passage

we read follows Jesus’ conversation with a Pharisee, Nicodemus, about what

it means to be born of both water and the spirit. Nicodemus approaches Jesus

at night and acknowledges Jesus as a teacher from God. Jesus tells him that

only those who are born from above will see the Kingdom of God. Nicodemus

misunderstands and questions how a person can be born more than once.

Jesus tells Nicodemus that no one can enter the Kingdom of God without

being born of water and Spirit. Jesus is essentially explaining Baptism, which

we celebrate as a sacrament today. Yet Nicodemus, we are told, still does not

understand what Jesus is saying. Jesus continues by testifying to the need to

be born from above so that one might have eternal life.

In the context of today’s focus on the mystery of the Holy Trinity, the

reading calls our attention to the action of God, who reveals himself in three

persons: God the Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit. God the Father,

out of love for the world, sent his Son into the world in order to save it.

Through the death and resurrection of the Son, we have been given the gift of

the Holy Spirit. As three persons, God acts always as a God of love; he does

not condemn the world but acts to save it.

The Gospel also calls attention to the response that is required of us.

God’s love for us calls us to respond in faith by professing our belief in God’s

son, Jesus, and the salvation that he has won for us. This profession of faith is

a sign of the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

- Excerpted from Sunday Connection, Loyola Press

"God greatly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every

name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, of those in heaven and

on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord,

to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2: 9 - 11)

OPENING OF MASS FOR JUNE 6 & 7 AND BEYOND

After a long absence we are ready to resume our

active faith life on June 6 & 7. We are still in the yellow or

caution phase of the pandemic. It is important to note that the

dispensation of the obligation remains in effect and those who

are at risk for the effects of the corona virus should continue

to avoid public gatherings.

Church Use

We are only able to seat about 1/3 of our usual

capacity. Every other pew will be closed off and in the open

pews a distance of 6 feet is necessary between families, or

individuals. Face coverings are required for all except

toddlers. In the event that the church reaches capacity

persons could wait outside and enter for Holy Communion.

The 10:15 a.m. Mass on Sunday will be live-streamed and

persons could watch the Mass at that time on a smart phone

from their car and enter afterwards for Holy Communion.

We ask parishioners to use the side entrances rather

than the main center doors for Mass. All side doors will be

available and one set on each side is now fully powered, due

to the kindness of one of our parishioners.

The hymnals have been removed to avoid repeated

contact with parishioners. If you have your own missal or

Magnificat booklets you can bring them. Bulletins will be

produced, please be sure to take yours with you and do not

leave it in the church. Sanitizer is available at the church,

however if you have a supply with you that would be of

assistance.

Baskets will be positioned for your offerings as you

enter the church, there will not be a collection at the offertory.

The ushers will empty the baskets at that time.

Holy Communion

Will be distributed at the conclusion of Mass rather

than at the normal time. As people approach to receive,

please be conscious of maintaining the 6 feet distance

between. For persons with celiac disease who are unable to

receive the host, please alert the priest and we will have a

separate chalice with the Precious Blood for each person.

Daily Mass

All Masses will take place in the main church. Please

use only the center sections as we do need to sanitize the

church regularly.

Confessions

In keeping with the need to use an open area and to

avoid direct contact we have arranged 2 stations for

Confessions at each side of the Church near the current side

Confessionals. The priest will be situated on one side of the

cloth screen and a chair is placed on the other for the

penitent. A spot will be designated for the line to form. The 6

foot distance between persons will be necessary and the line

may need to move down the center aisle.

Church Sanitization

For the initial weekend parish staff will sanitize the

church after each Mass. Going forward we would greatly

appreciate some volunteers who would be able to help with

this, including after Daily Mass. We will have all of the

necessary materials available, along with instructions.
