The news channels these days are flooded with campaigns and election news. The UK is

going through a pivotal moment to decide whether it stays in the Euro Zone or exit from

it. Back at home, political parties step up their campaigns gearing up towards July 2nd

2016 to find out who is going to run the country. The peoples’ choice will determine the

outcome of these elections. People are free to choose who they want to elect and follow.

In every big decision, the peoples’ choices often make a great impact. We are called to

make choices for our country, our lives, our families, our communities and our spiritual

lives. The gospel reading on this 13th Sunday of ordinary time paints a picture of the fol-

lowers of Christ in a situation where they have to make choices too. Jesus heads to Jeru-

salem and he knows that hatred, rejection, suffering and death await him there. It is not

an easy decision to follow him to that destination. The gospel tells us that many offered

to follow him but are holding back for some reasons. One wanted to bury his father first,

the other wanted to say goodbye to his family first and Elisha, in the first reading, wanted

to kiss his father and mother first before setting off with the Prophet Elijah.

Are we ready with our choices regarding who we are going to vote for in the coming

election? Are we ready to make choices that can lead us to the betterment of our families

and future generations? Do our choices lead to the improvement of the most disadvan-

taged and bring about the human dignity to those marginalized in our society?

At the beginning of the gospel, Jesus and his disciples travel through a Samaritan town

and they were not welcomed there. This was clearly because of the cultural differences

between Jews and Samaritans. Do we allow this same thing to happen in our community

today? Do we allow cultural and other differences to divide us? It is a tough choice to be

able to accept those from another race and religion. But it is a challenge that comes from

the root of our Christianity.

The American author and journalist, Patrick Ness, wrote that choices may be unbelieva-

bly hard but they're never impossible. To say we have no choice is to release ourselves

from responsibility and that's not how a person with integrity acts. May the words of the

Son of God remind us and continue to inspire us in whatever choice that we make.

God bless... Fr Wills

First Reading: Is 66:10-14 Second Reading : Gal 6:14-18

Gospel Reading : Lk 10:1-12, 17-20

This Week… Scripture Zone

First Reading:

1 Kings 19:16 19-21 In the call of Elisha, we see

something of the total commit-

ment which God asks of those

who are called. Having been

covered by Elijah’s mantle, Eli-

sha bids farewell to his family

and giving up the tools of his

trade-oxen and plough—follows

Elijah.

Response: You are my inheritance, O Lord.

Second Reading:

Galatians 5:1 13-18 In this reading, Paul sounds a

warning: the freedom we have in

Christ is not a freedom for self-

indulgence. The freedom we

have in Christ is the freedom to

be led by and to live by the Spir-

it.

Gospel Acclamation Alleluia, alleluia!

Speak, O Lord, your servant is

listening;

You have the words of everlasting

life.

Alleluia !

Gospel Reading Luke 9:51-62 When Jesus resolutely takes the

road towards Jerusalem, it is more

than just a journey in space and

time. It is a journey to the Cross

and Resurrection, a journey his

disciples are invited to make, too.

Congratulations and a very warm

welcome to Oriana Mile-

to,Bruno Crestani, Luca Rogic, Jayce Alderton & Amelia Turner all of whom will be baptized into

our Christian com-munity this week-

end.

POINT TO PONDER An important decision I made was

to resist playing the Blame Game.

The day I realized that I am in

charge of how I will approach

problems in my life, that things

will turn out better or worse be-

cause of me and nobody else, that

was the day I knew I would be a

happier and healthier person. And

that was the day I knew I could

truly build a life that matters.

Please pray for the soul of

Mollie Livingstone who recently

passed away . We pray a special

prayer for the family during this

special time.
