Holy Redeemer Catholic Church
Our Mission Statement: The mission of Holy Redeemer Parish is to be a Catholic community centered in Christ as revealed through the Holy Scripture, Sacred Tradition and the Church's teaching authority. The Holy Spirit empowers us to reach out and build God's Kingdom as we worship, educate, serve and evangelize.
“Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ” (Romans 1:7, ESV).
Welcome!
Sixth Sunday in Ordinary Time
How do you view laws and rules whether they are from
the Church or State? As Americans, we tend to take
regulations very literally, while in other countries they
are viewed as more flexible and open to interpretation.
Which is more important: to follow the “letter of the
law” or the spirit? Jesus pointed out that the
commandment not to murder applies to those who are
angry with others. In our civil law, we make distinctions
between murder, manslaughter and self-defense. Church
law says to go to Mass on Sunday. Does that mean you
have to be present for the whole Mass or can you come
late or leave early and still have it “count”? What is
behind the laws and rules? What is the value they are
upholding? Is it possible to fulfill the letter of the law
and violate the spirit of it? Consider these things.
Open my eyes that I may consider
the wonders of your law.
~Psalm 119:18
Our Lenten small Faith Sharing groups will be starting next
week Feb. 23rd. This year we will again be using the booklet “Disciples On The Journey”. Pope Francis tells us the life a Christian is about an encounter with Jesus Christ. It has been said that one of the best ways to encounter Christ is to share faith. These small faith sharing sessions based on the Sunday
readings of Mass provide that opportunity. If you wish to facilitate a group or participate please contact Jim in the Religious Ed. Office. @ 541-756-0161. (see insert in bulletin)
The Lord be with you,
Here are two facts to help you start February
right.
Fact #1 - Ash Wednesday is February 26th.
Fact #2 - God does not need Lent, we do.
Please welcome Tom and Tricia
Meza to our Holy Redeemer
Family. They come to us from
St. Joseph’s in Los Banos,
California.
Our Lenten Focus
Lent, the church-year season
that begins on Ash Wednesday,
is a time of penitence and
spiritual renewal. Some people
give up a luxury or vice during
Lent as a form of self-denial; others undertake a
project that benefits others.
The point isn’t to denigrate ourselves or to see
how much we can do without. Instead, Lent helps
us reflect on Jesus’ death. As Timothy Keller
writes in The Reason for God: “The Christian
Gospel is that I am so flawed that Jesus had to die
for me, yet I am so loved and valued that Jesus
was glad to die for me. This leads to deep
humility and deep confidence at the same time. It
undermines both swaggering and sniveling. I
cannot feel superior to anyone, and yet I have
nothing to prove to anyone. I do not think more
of myself nor less of myself. Instead, I think of
myself less.”

Children’s Store. Now is a good time to clean
out any re-giftable items, trinkets, toys, anything we could put into the Children’s store for children to purchase for their families. We collect all year for this event and would love to help you reduce clutter by taking any of your new or slightly used items to put in the store. Items can be dropped off Religious Ed or parish office. We can also use paper bags with handles. ~Blessings, Jim and Ann

Men’s Group
“A group of men from Holy Redeemer have met almost continuously for the last 25-years. The meeting place has moved around, but most recently settled for the Parish library from 5pm to 6pm on Monday evenings. We discuss current events about the Church; world-wide, national and local, but we talk about sports, hunting and fishing too. We really do spend most of our time going over the next Sundays ‘readings’ and how that message relates to us individually and as part of a community here in North Bend. Other topics have included ‘small-group sessions’ for Lent. Right now, we’re discussing the Matthew Kelley book we all got for Christmas. We do odd jobs around the Parish grounds from time to time. The core group is about eight or nine guys but we have room for more.” ~Greg Stone
