Preparing for Holy Week
Sign-up sheets for Extraordinary Ministers of Holy Communion are up in the cloak room hallway, outside
of the sacristy in preparation for Holy Week. Please leave your name if you are
able to assist.
Palm Sunday April 7/8, 2017
Greeters Needed
On Palm Sunday our tradition is to begin in the hall
for each Mass and process into the church with our
newly blessed palm branches (if walking is
difficult , you may remain in the church).
Our procession with palm branches reminds us of
Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem. Since the beginning
of this Mass will be different, we ask for greeters
in place prior to each Mass to help direct people to
the hall.
The sign-up sheet for Palm Sunday greeters can be
found in the hallway, outside of the sacristy. If
you know you can be here about half an hour before
Mass please help out and sign-up as a greeter.
The Easter Story Presented on Video During Liturgy of
the Word for Children When: 11:00 AM Mass
Part 1 - April 6 (this Sunday)
All Children are WELCOME!
N earing the end of the season of Lent, the Church this Sunday is knocking at the door
of Holy Week (which begins next Sunday, April 9, with Palm Sunday), seeking entrance to the events that together form the passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. This is the annual reminder of God’s love for His people!
The death from which we are called is healing from those things which bind us and hold us back: memories, fears, rejection, or other such things. What binds you? What keeps you from fully being your own most true self in Christ?

Remember – many hands
make light work.
The Gospel of the Fifth Sunday is perhaps the
deepest meditation on the mystery of Baptism
and membership of the Church. It is a prelude to
the events of Easter Sunday, when we celebrate
the triumph of life over death. To be plunged into
the waters of baptism is to be buried with Christ,
only to rise with him from the waters. This
paradox of life and death is the content of today’s
readings. There is no more important part of our
faith that the resurrection: that Christ rose from
the dead is the very centre and heart of all that
we believe - without it, our faith is useless. In the
same way our belief in our own resurrection is
vital: it is the most deeply needed gift that Christ
gives us. This is why the climax of the instructions
given to candidates for Baptism was this teaching:
that Christ would give them life after death. Look
ahead to the 3rd Sunday of Easter, where Saint
Peter preaches to the crowds what he teaches
them is that life comes after death, as it did for
Lazarus, and for Christ himself.

This Is Solidarity Sunday - Collection: Development & Peace Share Lent
Week 5
April 2, 2017
Solidarity Sunday!
Thank you for your generosity! Each donation is used to help our sisters and brothers all over the world — from Paraguay to Syria, to Indonesia and beyond! We conclude this Share Lent with the words of Pope Francis, offered on the occasion of the Jubilee of Mercy: “Mercy is the force that reawakens us to new life and instils in us the courage to look to the future with hope.” Thank you for helping us create a future filled with hope!
Did you know that in 1992, Rigoberta Menchú, a friend of Development and Peace – Caritas Canada, received the Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of her work defending the rights of Indigenous peoples? To learn more about this inspiring woman, visit devp.org/insp-women#rigoberta.
Father Henri Nouwen was a Catholic priest, a University professor and one of the best known spiritual writers of the last 100 years. He died suddenly 20 years ago in September 1996.
In his last works, just before he died, Henri Nouwen began to speak of how the final task in life is to give one’s death to others. We are meant, Nouwen says, to give our lives for others, but we are also meant, to give our deaths for them. Just as elders are meant to teach the young how to live they are also meant to teach them how to die. That’s the final lesson we are meant to give the young, to die in such a way that our deaths are our final blessing to them.
The promise of life everlasting means that our death does not have to be our final failure, our final defeat in the struggle of life, our unavoidable fate. If our deepest human desire is, indeed, to give ourselves to others, then we can make our death our final gift.
The 2017 National Catholic Mission will feature:
Sister Sue Mosteller CSJ and Father Ron Rolheiser OMI.
Featuring:
Sister Sue Mosteller and Fr. Ron Rolheiser, O.M.I.

Catholic Education Week 2017 begins on Sunday, April 30.
The Catholic schools in our parish will engage in a series of
events to celebrate the ongoing gift of publicly-funded
Catholic education. You are invited to discover what cele-
brations are happening in your children’s school and if pos-
sible, attend. Publicly-funded Catholic education has existed
in Ontario since 1841 and its graduates have served Ontario
and Canada very well. The current generation of students in
our publicly-funded Catholic schools will serve with the
same spirit and generosity as their previous generations.
