Week 1

Trinity/Who has Holy Spirit

Who is included in the trinity?

Read: Genesis 1: 26 (God as “us”) Matthew 28:19 (Father, Son, Holy Spirit)

This is pretty confusing. To help understand, think of some things that are 3 in 1. (could be a team competition) i.e. Three Leaf Clover Peanut Butter M&M’s (shell, chocolate, pb)

When do we receive the Holy Spirit?

Read: Ephesians 1:13-14

What questions do you have about the Holy Spirit?

Week 2

Sent Reason 1:to Teach and RemindJohn 14:26

“But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.”

What do you think he would teach us? Remind us of?

How does he do this?

Can you think of a time that you would say the Holy Spirit could have been teaching or reminding you?

Practice: Write it down. Think of as many details as you can about the time you felt the Holy Spirit was teaching you.

Week 3

Sent Reason 2:to convictJohn 16:8

“When he comes, he will convict the world of guilt in regard to sin and righteousness and judgement…”(Convict: expose, rebuke)

Read: Psalm 139:23

Why would he convict us?

Further Thought: Think of a sin you have been guilty of. What is it? What impact did it have on you? On others? Did someone discourage the behavior? If so, why do you think they said something?

What is motivation for convicting you?

Listen or Ignore? When the Holy Spirit convicts you, it’s your choice to listen or ignore. Why would you choose to listen? Why would you choose to ignore?

What do you think the outcome of listening would be? How about ignoring?

Practice: be quiet for 2 minutes and ask God to convict of a sin you are guilty of and need to ask Jesus to forgive.

Week 4

Practice Part 1: Put some kind of point on the wall (paper, chair, post-it-note…so on). Have one person at a time put on a blindfold, spin around 5 times, and try to make their way to that point on the other side of the room without help.

Did you make it to the point on the wall? How hard was it to get to the other side of the wall?

Sent Reason 3:to guideJohn 16:8

“But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come.”

Practice Part 2: Now have each person one at a time put on a blindfold (spin around 5 times). This time, have someone behind them telling them to move right, left, stop, forward or backwards…to reach a spot on the wall.

Did having someone guiding you make it easier to reach the point on the wall?

Read: 1 Corinthians 2:10-12 Galatians 5:16

What do these passages tell us about God and the Spirit? How might this help us better understand it guiding us?
