SUNDAY’S REFLECTION The Call to Discipleship The core vocation in the Gospel of Mark is the vo-cation, or call, to discipleship. Today’s Gospel passage provides us with one last example of what the vocation to discipleship means, and one example of what it doesn’t mean. A destitute widow shows us that disci-pleship means following Jesus’ way of service, even if it requires giving one’s livelihood (or life). The scribes show us by their bad example that discipleship should entail a vocation to extend God’s care to those who are most in need. In our reading from the book of Kings another wid-ow and her son are close to death. They too give what little they have, but they are rewarded by Elijah with food enough for a year. And the reading from the Letter to the Hebrews reminds us that Jesus sacrificed his life “to bring salvation to those who eagerly await him” (Hebrews 9:28).

REST IN GOD’S ETERNAL LOVE & PEACE:

Our Parish Community wishes to extend our sympathy to the family and friends of all the faithful departed especially, Maria Nhuan Thi Pham, Nicholas Tuong Truong, & Phuong Trong

STEWARDSHIP RENEWAL WEEKEND IS HERE! Question: How will you thank our God for the gifts that He has given you? Answer: How about taking part in one of the many ministries that our Parish has just waiting for you!? That’s right, you could be an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion at the Altar or to the Sick. Like to meet new people? How about being a Greeter at the Mass you already attend? Love to sing? Join the choir! As disciples of Christ, each of us is called to offer ourselves to God and to use the gifts that He has given us to further His Kingdom. Jump in and try it! God always gives us more than we give Him!

Are you involved in parish life here at Holy Spirit? Do you feel you belong and Holy Spirit is your home, your community?

Wonderful opportunities are available and await your decision to get involved. Give back to God something as a sign of gratitude for His many blessings.

Our Stewardship Renewal Weekend is this weekend. It is your opportunity to offer your Time, Talent and Treasure in the coming year for all that God has generously given you and your family. Please take the time to review the Ministry Directory to help you determine your greater parish involvement. We strongly desire you to be an active parishioner here at Holy Spirit. We have a wonderful parish because we have so many dedicated parishioners who graciously give of their time and talent back to our Church. While we are grateful for all the wonderful support we have from our dedicated volunteers we still desire to have those who have never participated in parish life to be-come more active in Holy Spirit. Join us! You will not be disappointed. Commitment cards can be returned next weekend by placing them in the offertory basket at Mass or after Mass in the basket on the Stewardship table locat-ed at the main entrance of the Church.

CHILDREN’S CHOIR- THANK YOU!!! On behalf of our Children’s Choir, I would like to thank Bob LaBriola from Fountain Valley Skating Center for inviting our choir to a skating session last Sunday, November 4. The children, as well as the adults, had a great time! Some kids have never skated before so this was a perfect opportunity for them to learn. Thanks again! We appreciate the thoughtfulness!
