Where did the summer go? As our children and teachers begin back to school and many vacations come to an end, we are all gearing up for another exciting time of work in progress! Although the summer is often viewed as a time for rest and relaxation, an enormous amount of work and progress has been going on
since October 15 of 2018! See our new website at www.hsplc.org to follow our progress in pictures. Under the Welcome tab on the website, look for Parish Life which has several albums of pictures from the October 15th joint Masses through our Holy Spirit Festival.
The coming together of seven parishes into one has been no small task. And with that monumen-tal event many other tasks have been necessitated. One of the most important has been consolidating our work force. Interviews of all of our employees have taken place to understand exactly what jobs they were fulfilling. An analysis of what jobs we needed to fulfill as we move forward was also a major under-taking. New job descriptions and interviews for these positions also had to take place. Some of our employees decided to take this opportunity to retire or to do something different. Others have chosen to stay on board and are enthusiastic about the future. It is my pleas-ure to introduce some of our new employees to you as we move forward.
One of the most important jobs we have put in place is the director of facilities and maintenance. It’s my pleasure to introduce Ted Burke, who will now take on that great re-sponsibility. We will have some additional information about Ted and the duties for which he will be responsible in the coming bulletins.
Our next step then is to interview the other maintenance and cleaning positions that will be necessary. These inter-views and decisions will take place in the next few weeks.
God love you,

Reprinted from Letters to the Editor, New Castle News, Wednesday, August 7, on love counters violence in New Castle:
In the midst of incomprehensible acts of violence something beautiful and miraculous happened in New Castle. As the sun was setting on July 31st, hundreds of people gathered in Riverwalk Park to sing, pray, share stories, and comfort the families of our community. The gathering itself transcended all boundaries of race, class, religion, culture, ethnicity, and political affiliation. It was a gathering of diverse people into one body. The people of New Castle became living witnesses that the love that comes from God, and is shared with each other, is even more powerful than death itself.
Those of us who were sitting on the speakers’ platform could not help but be moved by the faces of members of the Mason, Jevcak, Jones, Eisenhuth, and Keller families. It was an evening to recall losses, but also for reconciliation and healing. As the skies grew darker under the setting sun the community participated in a candlelight vigil. Flickering lights filled the park, dispelling the darkness and witnessing to the preciousness and fragility of human life. The glowing candles provided a visual testimony that death and tragedy would not have the final word and that through faith we have every reason to be so bold as to hope that the young lives that have been lost so suddenly and tragically will yet be resurrected for all eternity.
As night descended on our community, members of each of families released sky lanterns as, one-by-one, each of the victims was named: Markie Mason, Jazmyn Keller, Darren Jevcak, and Alissa Jones. Each lantern represented a vibrant life. As the flickering lanterns drifted above the grieving town and disappeared into the darkness, the community of New Castle celebrated its faith, its hope, its resilience, and its love. On that night we all witnessed the true face and the true spirit of New Castle.

This weekend parishioners are asked to support two important programs of the Church in the United States:
the Catholic Communication Campaign and the Catholic University of America. The Catholic Communication Campaign, in partnership with our diocesan communications office, has been our voice in the national media: educating, entertaining, inspiring and informing the public about Gospel values. This collection helps to support our weekly televised Masses and a variety of catechetical video programs. The financial sacrifices made by Catholic parents to provide a Catholic college education today are significant. The funds collected for the Catholic University of America Campaign will help to defray these costs in the form of financial aid through scholarships to students who would not otherwise be able to attend.
ANY Announcements to be read from the pulpit on Sunday MUST be submitted for approval
to the parish office by the Monday of the week BEFORE the announcement is to be given.
Thank you for your cooperation!

Important meeting for choir members and musicians of Holy Spirit Parish Wednesday, August 28, at 7:00 pm, there will
be a meeting in the hall at St. Joseph the
Worker for all choir members and other mu-
sicians of Holy Spirit Parish. There are excit-
ing changes coming that we need to discuss.
Music is such an integral part of our worship!
Sadly, choirs seem to be dwindling. This is not
just a problem here in Lawrence County, but
all over the Catholic Church AND Protestant
churches. As ONE parish, we need to talk
about how our musicians can be ONE and how
best to serve Holy Spirit Parish.
Please come if you
are a choir member
or would like to be
one, or if you play
handbells or other
instruments and
would like to be a
part of the music
ministry at Holy Spirit Parish. We have ideas
to share and would like to know what you
think.
Please come with an open mind and an open
heart!
Sharing CHRIST: go bear fruit September 3 is the start
date for Sharing Christ,
the third course in the

order to share Jesus with
others so that we ourselves may be transformed into
His missionary disciples. All those who know and
love Jesus and would like to learn how to share
Christ’s love are welcome to participate in Sharing
Christ.
You do not need to have previously attended
Discovering Christ
or Following Christ to take part in Sharing Christ.
Please come and bring a friend! The evening is free
of charge. If anyone needs a ride, please let us know.
We can arrange for someone to pick you up and take
you home. You can register with
Barb Strittmatter, 724-656-0942

utive Tuesday evenings in the hall at the Mary,

RITE OF CHRISTIAN
INITIATION OF ADULTS
Do you know someone who has expressed an interest in becoming Catholic? Or maybe someone who was baptized Catholic as a child, but has not celebrated the
Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist? Maybe that “someone” is you!
Our RCIA program offers an opportunity to come together in a small group to explore their relation-ship with Jesus while learning more about the Cath-olic faith. Jesus asks: “Who do people say that I am? “ the RCIA session will explore this question using our personal experiences as well as exploring what the Catholic Church teaches. Through this ex-ploration, individuals may choose to celebrate the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist during the Easter season.
You are welcome to participate in the process with your questions, your insights and your faith story in a warm accepting setting. Our RCIA program be-gins with an informational meeting on Thursday, September 12th at 7:00 pm in the Marian Room on the lower level of Mary, Mother of Hope wor-ship site at 124 N. Beaver Street. For additional information, please contact Fr. Brendan Dawson at 724-652-3422 x. 202 [email protected] or Michele Lagnese at [email protected].
