From the Pastor’s Desk: Dear friends, My different and continual interactions with the different ministries and parishioners here at Holy Cross have allowed me to discover and appreciate the vitality of our parish family. So much is realized every day and still there are lots of potentialities. These initiatives and energies could achieve much more if they were systematically guided and organized within the scope of a parish pastoral program and mission. To implement the latter, there is need for a parish structure called Parish Pastoral Council, which we do not have in our parish. What is a Parish Pastoral Council?
The Parish Pastoral Council is a consultative body (8 – 12 people) that strives to discern the movement of the Holy Spirit among God’s people in the parish. Through reflection, prayer, planning, motivation and support, the parish pastoral council assists the pastor with discerning and achieving the overall good of the parish and its mission. It serves the pastor by helping identify and encourage those ministries or services that are needed for the growth of a living parish community, evaluated and implemented in a regular basis. Specifically, the parish pastoral council’s purpose is to enhance the process of:
pastoral planning (parish vision for the future) developing pastoral programs improving pastoral services evaluating the pastoral effectiveness of various programs and
services.
As we can see, serving on the council is a ministry to the whole parish; and given the nature of the council, a member needs an awareness of the Church and its mission and openness to the Holy Spirit. Therefore, potential candidates should be:
baptized and confirmed Roman Catholic in good standing with the Church
active participant in the parish life with sound morals and an understanding of and commitment to the
Church of Vatican II demonstrating the gifts of wisdom and prudence willing to commit their time, talent and wisdom in a consultative and collaborative manner
After reading this posting, I invite to you to pray, and to consider and respond to the following question: Am I called to or do I know someone who can serve as a member of the Parish Pastoral Council? Then, after discernment, I invite you to nominate someone you feel fits the criteria above as a member of our Parish Pastoral Council. There is a box in the narthex where you can drop your nomination note. You can also send your nominee name to me directly at [email protected]. Thank you for your help and participation. And let us continue to pray for one another and for our parish family. Fr. Emery Longanga Parochial Administrator
Emery Longanga Parochial Administrator
