Dear Parishioners,
Happy Easter! I know that given the
current situation with the coronavirus, it
does not seem as happy as it should be.
The priests of the parish and I love this
time because it is usually a great experience of not only
celebrating the Holy Week Liturgies, but we get to connect
with so many people who come to Mass. People visit their
families, kids are home from school, and everyone seems
to be in good spirits. Know that our prayers are with
everyone who is going through this very difficult time of
loss, isolation and loneliness. It is our prayer that God will
raise these difficult things up to new life.
Usually I take this time to speak about all the activities in
the parish. Since everything is on hold in terms of gathering
together, we have moved online. Currently we have a
number of prayer opportunities, charitable works and
community gatherings all online. Please visit our website
for more details of how we are continuing the work of Jesus.
Our beautiful parish will not be stopped because of the
current call to stay at home. Know that if you have been
away for a time, you are always welcomed to reconnect with
your spiritual home.
Please know that all of your priests and parish staff are
here to serve you in the name of Christ who died and rose
to new life. We love what we do for you and we hope that
you love being with us. May the new and risen Christ give
you new life. He is risen. Alleluia!!!!
Fr. Daniel
Easter Sunday ~ April 12, 2020
Easter Sunday of the Resurrection of the Lord
When we awoke this morning, we found ourselves blessed with another day. It is Easter Sunday. As that thought
crossed our minds, did we find ourselves saying “so what” or “alleluia”? For many, today is truly a day of alleluia. For
others, it is just another day of “so what.” Faith makes a huge difference. It not only makes a difference in how we
understand today and the significance of what we celebrate, it also makes a huge difference in terms of how we
understand ourselves.
Succeed, live well, be productive, find your niche, follow your dreams, make money, protect your social status, be
politically correct, and keep your preferences to yourself are pretty good examples of the messages our secular life
wants us to hear. In and of themselves, they don’t sound all that harmful. But when really examined, they are. The life
of resurrection embodied in the Gospel tells us a much different story.
Life keeps us busy. We are always connected, distracted, occupied, and working. For many of us, an agenda awaits us
before we even start our day, and unfinished stuff is brought with us when we retire at night. Make the best of life and
“find your own road to happiness are messages we all too easily believe. The “so what” response to the new life of
resurrection is often the result of believing that life is only what I make it. What God has to say isn’t important to me
securing my next raise.
Sadly, we live as if the grave is the end. While we may give the wonder of heaven a blink now and then, its glory really
doesn’t impress us or matter all that much. It’s all about the here and now and what I need to do today to get where I
want to be tomorrow. We tend to put off considering the one significant “tomorrow” that will come the millisecond after
we take our last breath. When that happens, will we want to be thinking “so what?” or “alleluia”?
There is only one Jesus, one mission, and one resurrection. There is also only one of us. Have you ever pondered what
one solitary, humble human life can do? Faith, not our world, tells us how special we are. We are not robots. We are
not replaceable. We have one shot. There are no do-overs. Love is at our core and unites us together as one with the
God of love who so desperately wants us to be with Him forever. This may not match our secular agenda, but it ought
to make our true inner agenda leap for joy. There doesn’t need to be an end. I can live forever.
Alleluia! ©LPi
Sharing the Gospel with Children It was very early in the
morning on Sunday. The tomb stone was rolled away.
Jesus was gone. All that was left inside were the strips of
linen cloth. When John and Peter saw it, they were
amazed. They did not understand all the promises the
prophets wrote about Jesus yet. However, they knew he
was alive. He had risen from the dead!
God, I thank you for bringing Jesus back to life. Color Jesus!

suspended, our parish financial needs remain the same.
We count on your weekly generosity as always to help
sustain the day-to-day operation, growth and programs
of our parish. If you do not do so already, please
consider regular online giving through WeShare. It’s
easy and convenient.:

Our lives as Catholics provide us with skills and
experiences we can use to deal with the current
pandemic faithfully and constructively. Our diocesan
website provides several ideas and links to resources
you can use to channel time and energy in positive ways,
while adjusting to more time at home, fewer outside ac-
tivities, and concerns raised by social distancing or
health measures.
PRAY • Start and end your day by making the Sign of the
Cross and asking God to help you find calm when you
need it, or to give thanks that you are never truly alone in
the Body of Christ.
• Use your Bible or an online resource to read Scripture
for the upcoming Sunday or the Mass for the day. Our
parish bulletin lists readings for each day (see page 7).
CONNECT
• Take at least one minute to sit by yourself without do-
ing anything other than simply sitting with God.
• Choose one or two people outside of your home that
you want to reach out to during the week. Call, text, mail
a card, or reach out to them to keep the connections
alive.
• Minimize anxiety by limiting your news intake to only a
few high-quality sources.
10
• Devote some of the time you are online to feeding
both your spirit and your mind with faith
LEARN
• If you or someone in your household is participating
in a religious education program or preparing for a
sacrament, read over and talk about what you have
done to celebrate what you have already learned and
identify questions you still have.
If you or if you know someone
who needs assistance during
these trying times, contact
Catholic Charities of Maine

some relief as you wait for
stimulus or unemployment
checks.
