Thank you for your continued support of the diocesan annual appeal which benefits bouth our parish and the broader chuch in SC. Remember, our challenge this year is to reach 100% participation from all our Diocesan families, I trust we will not only hit this goal, but we will exceed it. 40 Days for Life Campaign March 5-April 13

On Ash Wednesday March 5th, our community will once again come together for our peaceful prayer vigil outside the local abortion site (The Charleston Women’s Medical Center 1312 Ashley River Rd.) aimed toward ending abortion and promoting a culture of life. Just your “prayerful presence alone” outside the abortion site has been known to change a woman’s heart to let her baby live! The 24 hour Vigil date for both Cathedral and St. Mary’s parishes is Saturday, March 29th. Our Knights of Columbus do a great job covering the night hours but we need prayer supporters during the day! For questions or to sign up call Cheryle at Cathedral 696-0604 or Jim at St. Mary 813-6078. Or to learn more or sign up visit www.40daysforlife.com/Charleston.

Pelican:In the Middle Ages, the pelican came to represent Jesus’ sacrifice of his blood for the world. According to legend, a mother pelican, in times of famine, would pluck open her chest and feed her young with her own blood. An alternate myth was that she fed her dying young with her blood to revive them, losing her own life in the process. The depiction of a pelican with a drop of blood on her chest is called “the pelican in her piety.”
