Tyrannosaurus Rex (tye-RAN-uh-SAWR-us-REX)

Name Meaning: tyrant lizard

When they lived : 68-66 million years ago

What they ate: carnivore/ meat

Height: 7 metres

Length: 9 metres (about as long as a bus)Weight: 7250 kilograms

Description: Tyrannosaurus rex is probably the most famous of all dinosaurs. It had a huge skull full of long, sharp teeth. The T-Rex was able to chase down prey very quickly. They had strong legs and a powerful tail that helped it move fast. Scientists think that this dinosaur could eat 250 kilograms of meat in one bite.

What they ate: herbivore, meaning it ate plants like

Weight: 3000 kilograms, about as heavy as a car Description: Stegosauruses had large triangle-shaped plates along its back . Their brain was about the size of a ping pong ball. They did not have many teeth. These dinosaurs had a beak at the front of their mouth and small teeth in their cheeks. Scientists think they used to lift themselves up onto two legs to reach food up high.

Carnivore or herbivore? A carnivore is an animal or dinosaur that eats meat. Herbivores do not eat meat. They eat plants. Meat eating dinosaurs had long, sharp pointed teeth. Can you circle the dinosaur with long, sharp teeth?

Plant eaters had either very small teeth or larger teeth with flat edges and some had beak-like mouths. Plant eaters also often had long necks to reach into the trees. Which dinosaurs do you think ate plants? Which dinosaur do you think used it's long neck to reach into the trees?

1. Paint a paper plate in a colour of your choice (FOR A BIT OF FUN - Paint a piece of bubble wrap and then your paper plate onto the bubble wrap).

2. Turn the paper plate over. 3. Choose which dinosaur you would like to make. 4. Copy the instructions for that dinosaur. 5. Cut on the black lines. 6. Staple or glue the pieces together. 7. Glue a googly eye onto your dinosaur. 8. Add extra details with a black marker.
