Davis and Sarah and Sally Wilkieof Homebarn, all of whom share apassion for the world of botanicaland vintage.

Each matchbox is a little treasure,containing a paper parcel of seedswrapped in 1920’s newspaper

and twine;  every one a little pieceof potting shed history.

Garden Studio

Create a striking typographicalmood-board inspired by spendingtime in the garden getaway.

Salvaged shutters are at theirbest with layered and peelingpaintwork on show, making theperfect backdrop to the vintage1950’s Coca-Cola crates,stacked with beautiful emeraldgreen Windsor & Newtonpowder paints.

There is a visual feast in discardedbooks and vintage ledgers, withspines removed and tatteredbindings on show.

Frayed and unraveled, withyellowing pages, they are stackedhigh as the perfect showcase forwoodland plants, cacti andminiature succulents.

Look to the art cupboard or pantry for quirky containersand alternative vessels for floral

and green display: vintage ceramicmarmalade pots or empty paint tinscreate unique indoor herbarium.

Even the tiniest of packages can be seen as works of art. Use vintage newspaper, magazinepages, sewing patterns and evenwallpaper to make unique andquirky giftwrapping.

Found objects from discardedantique drawers to vintage fruitcrates give opportunity to displaytreasured items such as Victorianbottles and vials.

Pretty displays are created withtiny succulents or woodland ferncuttings in antique poison bottlesand inkwells. Reminiscent ofJoseph Cornell style, produce an

ever-changing artwork withoutthe formality of framing.

Contrast is found in the fragile and weathered by introducingcontemporary materials such as amodernist concrete bowl, filled with miniature succulents for arelaxed display.

Weathered frames with layered,peeling paintwork have a historyand beauty of their own. Hungdried flowers and stems create aless conventional piece of artwork.

Old frames have unique charmand character, prop against a walland add favorite objects as a focalpoint to the display.

The Homebarn showroom is based in Buckinghamshire and is open six daysa week. The 17th century tithe barn is situated on the beautiful banks of theRiver Thames and is close to some of the most celebrated country pubs andrestaurants in the UK. We also have an online shop where you can view ourconstantly changing, unique stock.
