USA's and Russian war relations Before the war, America had depicted the Soviet Union as almost the devil-incarnate.TheSoviet Union had depicted America likewise so their friendshipduring the war was simply the result of having a mutual enemy - Nazi Germany. In fact, one of Americas leading generals,Patton, stated that he felt that the Allied armyshould unite with what was left of the Wehrmacht in 1945,utilize the military genius that existed within it(such as the V2s etc.)and fight the oncoming Soviet Red Army.Churchill himself was furious that Eisenhower,as supreme head of Allied command, had agreed that the Red Army should be allowed to get toBerlin first ahead of the Allied army. His anger was shared by Montgomery, Britains senior military figure . 6. USA's Perception of the soviet unionthe us believed thatthe soviet union was a bad and evil place and filled withuseless and devilish things.they thought that they were thereincarnation of the devil. 7. So they raced to produce equal numbers ofweapons. 8. The cold war comes to a conclusionIn the late 1980s, the Cold War came to a dramatic end.The economies of nationsbehind the Iron Curtain were in trouble. People in East Germany, for instance, could see the prosperity and wealth of theirWest German neighbors. In Russia, there were long lines of people waiting to buy food. They had to have couponsfrom the government just to buy socks. Some historians believe that the trillions of dollars that both the U.S.and the U.S.S.R. spent on nuclear arms and conventional armies hadcaused the problems in Russia. There was also a lot of pent up demand forfreedom in the citizens living behind the Iron Curtain.
