Handle with CareAll Child Youth & School Services programs ensure the same quality of care for children. A developmentally appropriate curriculum for young children is planned by the caregivers/providers, with attention to the different needs, interests and developmental levels of the individual child, to prepare the children for success when they move on to school.Child Development Centers offer a variety of programs ranging from full day, part day and hourly care for children six weeks through preschool (five years of age).

Family Child CareBldg 283, Battalion Avenue254-287-5448The Family Child Care program is a managed network of child care professionals, certified to provide child care in on-post government quarters and in their off-post homes, for children ages 4 weeks to 12 years. FCC homes offer a variety of care op-tions to meet the military parent. Full day care, part day care, hourly care, extended care and long term care are all available. A 20 percent discount is available for Families with deployed soldiers.

Child Development Home Offers the best of both the FCC home environment, while being staffed by Child and Youth Program Assistants, as in the Child Development Centers. The CD Home is specifically designed to offer infant care, respite care, hourly care, extended hours care, emergency care and transition care for special needs children. The home is open from 5:30 am - 6 pm, during normal hours of operation, but may be open additional hours to accommodate shift work, emergency care situations and other duty requirements of military Families.

A fully accredited Kids on Site (KOS) child care center allows parent and child to remain close, while attending their chosen venue. The center offers a warm and welcome climate to new and returning Soldiers and Families.

The report may be restricted or unrestricted, based upon the victim-selected option.

Hood Howdy (Feb & Aug)The Hood Howdy fair provides information about the local area, including: schools, businesses, on and off-post agencies, housing and Family and MWR facilities. Entertainment, food and door prizes add fun to the welcome. Open to the public and entry fee applies.

Month Of The Military Child Festival (Apr) Month of the military child is held the first Saturday in April to recognize our nation’s children of military members. Their sacrifice and show appreciation for their role in the military Family. Food, entertainment and great door prizes make this fest the place to be for Fort Hood youth. Entry is free!

Flashlight Egg Hunt (Apr)Thousands of eggs and goodies are hidden and children ages two to 12 are invited to bring their baskets, flashlights and a parent to hunt for eggs in the dark at Belton Lake Outdoor Recreation Area. Pictures with the Easter Bunny, concessions and other children’s activities make the evening egg-citing. Open to the public and gate fees may apply.

Water Fest (Jun)Cool off this summer at BLORA with lots of fun activities for the whole Family, the first weekend of June. There will be free paddleboat rides, a kids’ auto wash, waterslide, pony rides, petting zoo, climbing wall, professional fishing demon-strations, jet ski races and a guarded swimming area with a soft sandy beach. Open to the public and gate fees may apply.

Freedom Fest (Jul)On the 4th of July the evening sky is transformd into the largest 30-minute fireworks display in Central Texas. Enjoy carnival rides, concessions, games, military displays and various other Family activities. Open to the public and entry is free.

U.S. Army Soldier Show (Jul)Some of the most talented active duty Soldiers throughout the Army are selected through auditions to perform in a high energy, 90-minute, live musical review that stops at Fort Hood during late summer. Open to the public and entry is free.

Fort Hood Hunting & Fishing Day (Sep) Fort Hood’s Hunting and Fishing Day is at the Sportsmen’s Center. Sportsmen gather for a day full of outdoor sports, in-cluding; fishing derbies, trap and skeet competitions, turkey shoots, archery shoots and more. Open to the public and fees may apply.

Oktoberfest (Oct)All ages are invited to come out and celebrate, with live en-tertainment, arts and crafts vendors, dancing, German style food, activities for the kids, and a Strongman Competition. Open to the public and entry is free.

Nature In Lights (Nov – Jan)Belton Lake Outdoor Recreation Area transforms into a win-ter wonderland for kids and kids at heart each year. Enjoy over five miles of syncronized and illuminated displays. Guests can shop for gifts, take photographs with Santa, and enjoy hot chocolate and treats at Santa’s Village, located in the park at Live Oak Pavilion. Open to the public and gate fees may apply.

Williamson County Symphony Orchestra (Dec)The Williamson County Symphony Orchestras perform free for the Fort Hood community annually. These world-class mu-sicians fill the stage with beautiful music in a performance that is well-loved by all ages. Open to the public and entry is free.
