l THIEVES broke into cars in Panton Road and stole an electrical item and keys.

l A FORD Focus was stolen after thieves took the victim’s keys at a party in Crossley

Crescent .

l BICYCLES were taken from a shed in Pear Tree Way and a garage in St James Avenue

Ipod ston in strt attack POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a robbery in which a 17-year-old had his iPod stolenafter being punched and kicked.

The victim was walking near the Co-op in Walker Street, Hoole, on his way home, when the

incident happened about 5.30pm on Monday 1st November.

A man asked him for a cigarette and then punched him to the head and the victim fell to the

ground after being punched a second time.

The offender stole an iPod and a packet of cigarettes and kicked the teenager as he lay on

the oor before running off.

The teenage victim needed hospital treatment after suffering bruising and swelling.

CHESTER’S Rhino Mania may be a distant

memory but in Hoole the trail is still hot with

the Hoolephant Treasure trail.

Organised by Hoole C of E Primary SchoolPTA in conjunction with Hoole businesses

and the Hoole Christmas lights committee

the trail saw 50 paper elephants placed in

Hoole businesses.

The trail was the inspiration of parent Anna

Marie Murray who said: “After all the support

that Hoole businesses have given the

school in recent years, the PTA was keen

to return the favour by encouraging local

shopping and supporting the Christmas

lights display.”

The elephants have been decorated by

children at the school, who were provided

with a trail map and encouraged, with

the help of their parents, to visit as manybusinesses in Hoole as possible and note

which elephant is in which business. Trail

maps were entered into a prize draw and

the lucky winner helped turn on the Hoole

Christmas lights.

New headteacher Miss Cheryl Walton said:

“The children have been inspired by the

idea of a treasure trail! I am delighted by

the commitment to continue to strengthen

community and school links through the fun

of the Hoolephant Treasure Trail.”

Two years ago Hoole

Allotments and Gardeners

Association (HAGA)

began looking for funding

to purchase and install a

composting toilet on their

site - which has more than200 plots.

The Association

approached their local Hoole

and Newton ward councillor

Bob Thompson for support

from his Member’s Budget

and he started the funding

pot off with a contribution of

£500.

“I was pleased to supportthe project as many local

residents have a plot at theHoole allotment site” said

Councillor Thompson.

“Also the composition of

the allotment holders is

changing with more families

than ever actively involved

and more and more people

looking to eat locally

grown produce; are more

interested in “Grow Your Own” and in healthy eating.

“This project makes a big

improvement for all using

the allotments.”

HAGA then approached

Chester’s Area Partnership

Board to see if their project

would t in with its priorities.

The Board advised that it

was able to help, not justwith funding toward the

purchase costs, but to installthe toilet.

Linda Webb, chairman

of HAGA, said: “It was

really difcult managing

without toilet facilities

on the allotment and the

cost and practicalities of

installing a normal toilet

were insurmountable and

of course not very green.So we decided that a

composting toilet was the

best option.

“We are very grateful

for the Chester Area

Partnership Board, Chester

and District Housing

Trust and Councillor Bob

Thompson for having the

vision to support us.”

D is for Decorations: In a Nativity play recently, all the lights were to be turned off, leaving only one light in the

manger. At the appropriate moment all light went out, even the manger light. The silence was broken when one of the

little shepherds whispered loudly “Hey, you turned off Jesus!”

E is for Emmanuel: The birth of Jesus shows us once and for all that God is not above us or against us but

rather among us.

F is for Families: Christmas was going to be different this year. Dad spoke to the family about use of time,

excessive spending on gifts and the need for les arguments. He ended with, “Lets make this best Christmas

ever!” His little son replied “But dad I don’t see how we can improve on the rst Christmas!

G is for Gifts: Christmas is about giving and receiving of gifts. On average each household spend £540

on Christmas presents this year.

H is for Herod: Herod was the rst man who hated Christmas. He was the original Grinch. Herod represents

all attempts to destroy Christmas as a festival and to erdaicate all talk of Jesus.

I is for Innkeeper: In the Nativity play Mary and Joseph knocked on the door, the innkeeper came to the door.

“Can we have a room for the night asked Joseph. The Innkeeper replied, come in, you can have the best room in

the hotel. There was a pause. But Joseph was a quick thinker, he looked over the innkeepers shoulder, turned to

Mary and said, “We not staying a dump like that, Come on Mary we’ll sleep in the stable!”

J is for Joseph: Joseph is denitely the forgotten hero of the nativity story. Joseph stood faithfully by Mary

and was a father to Jesus as the boy grew up. In our time, when ‘absent fathers’ has become epidemic Joseph’s

example is a powerful one.

M is for Mary: At a Nativity Play all was going well until the angel appeared and told the girl playing Mary she was going to be have a baby. But how can this

be said Mary since I am a Viking!

N is for Nativity: Christian art has made the nativity scene gloriously hygienic. But the truth is, the stable or cave where Jesus was born would have beensmelly, dirty and untidy.

O is for Origins: Have you ever thought why have a Christmas tree? Who pulled the rst Cracker? Who sent the rst Christmas card? Why do we call it

Boxing Day? Was Jesus really born on December 25th?

P is for Peace: Who can forget in the First World War, when British and German soldiers laid down their weapons came into No Man’s land and played a

game of football on Christmas Day? The rst Christmas Day was greeted with the angels declaring “peace on earth”

Q is for Queues: It was the week before Christmas; in one long queue to a check out till, one man was heard to say, “they should kill the guy who started

Christmas. A lady, further back in the line replied, “They did – they hung him on a cross!”

R is for Revelling: The birth of a child is an occasion for great rejoicing – Jesus’ birth was no different. Today, however, the rejoicing, is less associated with

this birth, it is motivated by the joy of having days off work and the excess of food and drink.

S is for Santa: A little girl climbed onto Santa’s lap, Santa asked the usual questions, “And what would you like for Christmas?” The child started at him open

mouthed and horried for a minute then gasped, “Didn’t you get my email?”

T is for Thanksgiving: Christmas is a time when we should excel in the gratitude attitude. Thanksgiving is therefore as much a part of Christmas as anything

else.

U is for Unselshness: This Christmas, why not live simply, so that others may simply live. It’s Christmas every time you let God love others through you,

every time you smile at your neighbour and offer him your hand.V is for Visiting: Christmas is a time when we visit family and friends and when we ourselves receive visitors. The startling truth about Christmas is that God

in Christ chose to make an extraordinarily journey from heaven to earth to visit us.

W is for Wonder: Was there a moment, known only to God, when all the stars held their breath, when the galaxies paused in their dance for a fraction of a

second, and the Word, who had called it all into being, went with all His love into the womb of a young girl?

X is for Xmas: You could say we have taken the Christ out of Christmas, if you do this all you are left with is M & S!!

Y is Yule: This was a mid winter festival which included the burning of a Yule log. It is associated with the longest day and looks forward to the coming of

spring.

Z is for Zonked Out: The festivities of Christmas end with the sigh of contentment and the sound of snoring as granddad falls asleep after his Christmas

lunch.

REGULAR events at the New Scene Live Youth New Scene building,Newton Lane, Chester

Live! (a small charity) established in 1993, enables children, young people and young adults of all

abilities to become active and valued citizens. The Live! organisation offers opportunities for these

children and young people to interact with their peers, have fun and feel valued. Activities seek to

address individual specic needs and provide opportunities for personal development in positive

life and social skills.

Stop for a refreshing drink during you walk or cycle ride - At the moment the café is open on

Mondays from 11 till 2 (ish) and then again on Thursday mornings from 10.30 till about 12.30. If there was a call for it though, it could open at other times Monday to Friday.

Mday ad Tuesday – Dance Intension, 5 till 9 on Monday and 4 till 6.30 on Tuesday. Dance
