Nominating Committee Time to start thinking about running for the 2017-18 Moose Board of Officers. IAW Sec. 33.3 - …”The Nominating Committee will or-ganize”...for our Lodge they will meet on 16 February immediately following the General Membership Meeting. With the exception of the Administrator, all officers are nominated on 16 March and are elected on 6 April. The final date and time to submit is 6 March at 5pm to the Administrator. No other nominations are accepted after 5pm. Current Board of Officer Positions are 3 Year Trustee, Prel-ate, Jr. Governor, Treasurer and Governor. Please read your General Laws as the criteria for running for Governor has various stipulations.

There is no password, so once you enter the lodge look under your set-tings for moose lodge and let the "surfin" begin! The lodge, donated 12 Thanksgiving baskets, to those less fortunate. The holidays are approach-ing and the lodge staff wish you and yours the very best. On Dec 10, the social quarters will be closed, for the employees and volunteers Christmas dinner. Governor Message The past month was very emotional for me as we honored all our Veterans on 11 November. Let’s also remember the Veterans that are no longer with us during the holidays. Thank You for all you do. We conducted our Membership Retention starting with a day in the park with a petting zoo for the kids, lunch and a great band. During the week we welcomed several new members and many renewed their commitment to Mooseheart and Moosehaven. Great job!!!! I hope you and your family had a great Thanksgiving. As we roll into the Christ-mas season, a lot of events and parties will be happening at the Lodge, so come down and enjoy the hospitality. The kitchen always has a great meal to warm your bones. January means New Year's. Remember don't let your Loved one's or friends drink and drive. Please join us at the VMA Midyear in Norfolk. Book your room early before they are all gone. Senior Regents Message The old saying seems to be true that "the older we are, the fast-er time goes". It is that way for me - it's hard to believe we are already in our twelfth month of 2016. December was the tenth month in the ancient Roman year. It was called DECEMBRIS by the Romans because DECEM is the Latin word for ten. SATURNALIA, the chief Ro-man festival, was held in December; it honored Saturn, father of Jupiter, and was accompanied by unbridled merrymaking. The Roman festival of the winter sol-stice, on December 25, celebrated the birthday of the Unconquered Sun. Until the reign of William the Conqueror (1066-87), the English began their year on Decem-ber 25. In ancient times, Druid priests preformed pagan rites during this sea-son. After their conversion to Christianity, the Saxons changed their name for the month, WINTER-MONATH, to HELIGH-MONATH, or HOLY-MONTH. Regardless of what it's called, December is a very busy month. As you are out and about during the month, why not take a break from going home to cook? Stop by the Social Quarters on Wednesday and Friday evenings for a 'home-cooked' meal without the work or cleanup. Chef Steve always has something special and deli-cious. Also, in the Ballroom we have Bingo on Sundays and Tuesdays. Doors open at 4:30 PM. On Monday evenings, try your luck with finding the Queen of Hearts and on the 2nd and 4th Thursdays, test your skill with Trivia. Drawing for the Scratch Raffle will be held on the 21st. Call or stop by the office for more information on this event. For an evening of celebration, make plans to attend the New Year's Eve dance in the Ballroom. Tickets are $30.00 each for this special night, including break-fast. Dance the night away with the music of Feature Attraction. Thanks to Marie Matlock and her Elves, you will be amazed when you see how beautiful the Ball-room is decorated. While he may not be much of talker....his lifelong actions and philanthropic nature speak vol-umes of his compassion for human welfare.

Hopewell Moose Fall Golf

Scramble The Hopewell Moose Lodge conducted it’s Final Fall Annual Golf Scramble on 12 Novem-ber at the Prince George Golf Course. This year Butch Morris and Mark Marshall turned in a score with 5 under par to claim brag-ging rights until next fall. Thanks to Mark and Butch for another great year of Golf at the Lodge. Lets hope Santa gets you some clubs so you can join us next spring.

Our very own Butch Morris also placed 3rd in the Super Senior Di-vision at the Moose In-ternational Golf Tourna-ment in Myrtle Beach in October. An Unmet Need that Moose Can Uniquely Fulfill The New Moose Experience has been con-ceived to address a dramatic sea change in the national workforce and the lives of today’s — and tomorrow’s — working fami-lies. We have identified an urgent, unfulfilled need in the lives of Millennial-led working families (people aged 20 to 36 with young children in the home) that Moose is uniquely qualified to fulfill. Upcoming Events Dec 31-New Year’s Eve Celebration- Tickets are on sale in the office for reserved seats.

“FEATURE ATTRACTION BAND” will be bringing this party to our ballroom. They were

here for last year’s New Year’s Eve Dance and we have had numerous requests for them

to come back. They perform a blend of music and entertainment that will please every-

one. One of their recordings has recently shown up on the top 20 list! This group has

performed frequently in Eastern Virginia and North Carolina, developing a huge fan base!

They will bring a New Year’s Celebration to our lodge that we will talk about for a long

time! Tickets are available in the office or by phone for $30.00. This will be a non-

smoking event. A Buffet Breakfast will be served at midnight. Only 350 tickets will be

sold. BYOB.

Jan 20– We will welcome the “FANTASTIC SHAKERS” back to our ballroom. They are

pioneers in performing the best music enjoyed up and down the East Coast, by all. They

are one of the favorites here and always draw a huge crowd so get your tickets and re-

serve your favorite table early! Advance tickets will be $15.00, $18.00 at the door. This

will be a non-smoking event. BYOB.

Feb 10-The Women of the Moose are hosting a Valentines Dance like they have never

done before. Gary Lowder and “SMOKIN HOT” will take the stage at 8. They are the

recipients of many music awards and are nominated for many more. When they were

here last spring, I was told several times that “they were the best band that’s ever been

on our stage!” Come support the Women of the Moose and have an evening of enter-

tainment that you won’t forget! Advance tickets will be $15.00, $18.00 at the door. This

will be a non-smoking event. BYOB

Entertainment News The Thanksgiving Turkey has passed the holiday torch on to Santa Claus and it will

quickly go on to the old man of 2016, then immediately to the baby of 2017. The holi-

days are so busy! Everyone enjoy your families and friends over this holiday season!

Bring them to the Moose for all of the holiday events and celebrations.

We are having fun at the Hopewell Moose Lodge every night of the week! Sunday and

Tuesday nights are Bingo nights. On Mondays, don’t forget the Queen of Hearts draw-

ing. The jackpot is growing and you may as well be the winner! Wednesday and Friday

nights we offer fine meals and DJ entertainment for your dancing and listening pleasure.

The second and fourth Thursday nights we have Trivia Night in the Social Quarters to

test your knowledge as well as entertain and compete against your friends for prizes.

There is never a cover charge for any of our Social Quarters Events!

We also have Ballroom events planned for the upcoming months. Advanced tickets are

available for ballroom events by calling the office and you can reserve your favorite

seats and tables at no additional cost. The ballroom seating chart is on our website

www.hopewellmooselodge.com, on the entertainment page. Everyone come out for lots

of fun, great food, dancing and listening pleasure with all your best friends.

Homeless Shelter

during the winter

months on West

Broad Street in

down town Hopewell. For the

past three years the Lodge

participates each Wednesday

to feed the needy. Other area

churches fill the other days of

the week. The

Lodge expanded

the their support

by purchasing

cots, bedding

and other linen.

The Lodge also

voted to pay the gas and wa-

ter bill for six month to en-

sure a prompt opening on 13

Mooseheart Boosters Why Become a Mooseheart Booster?

Mooseheart Child City & School is a residential childcare facility, located on a 1,000-acre campus 38 miles west of Chicago. The Child City is a home for chil-dren and teens in need, from infancy through high school. Mooseheart cares for youth whose families are unable, for a wide variety of reasons, to care for them. Some have lost one or both parents; others are living in environments that are simply not conducive to healthy growth and development.

Children live in one of roughly thirty residences, each home for six to twelve chil-dren. The heart of the program are the Family Teachers, who provide a con-sistent, systematic method of care, with emphasis on social-skills development – skills essential for success in later life. It is Mooseheart’s policy to admit qualified children who have a need. The Admissions Committee considers all applications of children in need.

As a Mooseheart Booster you help provide a home and education to children in need from across the continent. Your generosity, along with that of the men and women of the Moose fraternity, ena-bles Mooseheart Child City & School to provide services to children who need, and de-serve, the opportunity to live a happy and successful life.

"Volunteer of the Month” JULIE ANDREWS

Who is Julie you ask? Just look around the Social Quarters. She is everywhere. Each season she is in the Lodge decorating the Social Quarters at Easter, 4th of July, Christ-mas and her favorite holiday, Halloween. Julie is quick to jump in when the Lodge needs a helping hand. Like many Volunteer’s her support to the Lodge is never fully appreci-ated by those that benefit from her efforts. Those of us in-volved in the behind scene activities know the Lodge could not function without dedicated Volunteers like Julie. She continues to be a staple in the Lodge of which we all could not do without. From time to time you can find her at the Queen of Hearts in full outfit as the “QUEEN OF HEARTS”. We would be remiss if we did not mention the crowning jewel and her passion, the Annual Lodge Halloween Party. She pours her heart and soul into this event and it is the most anticipated dance of the year. Congratulations Julie.
