Host a #StopKavanaugh House Party

Page 2: Host a #StopKavanaugh House Party · • 2 tablespoons (1 ounce) fresh lime juice • 2 heaping teaspoons superfine sugar • 1 tablespoon (1/2 ounce) Cointreau or other triple sec

To educate your friends on what’s at stake with the Supreme Court vacancy.

To show your senators that voters care about protecting Roe v. Wade.

To give your friends an opportunity to take action in a way that’scomfortable for them.

Why should I host an action party?

Create an agenda. a. Think about the whens: When will doors open? When will program start? When will we take pictures and gather people’s stories? b. Could someone share a story about what Roe means to them? Will you show a video about why we need to stop Brett Kavanaugh? Check out www.facebook.com/naralprochoiceamerica for videos and other content. c. Still have questions? See below for a sample agenda!

Determine what materials are needed.Visual aids, projector, postcards, signage, tape, decorations, snacks/refreshments etc.

Tips for a successful action party

Make it fun! It’s a party after all, so folks should enjoy themselves. Some of our ideas include:

Play some feminist tunes and get your groove on! Good food + good drinks = good times. If you’re hosting at your home, make it a potluck to ease the burden (and cost) of hosting.

Serve feminist theme drinks! Check out our list in the appendix to get ideas for cocktails and mocktails for the thirsty feminist.

Encourage conversation around why reproductive freedom matters:

Ice breaker idea: once you have a good crew of folks there, have people go around the room and share who their feminist icon is and why!

Use the discussion questions and talking points found in this toolkit to kick off the conversation with your guests.

Give information:

Once folks have had some time to mingle, take a few minutes to share why the Supreme Court matters for reproductive freedom.

What action should we take?

Postcard writing

Make a video and post it on social media!

Guests should write postcards to their senators urging them vote no on Kavanaugh, along with what Roe v. Wade means to them! These postcards will be sent to senators. Find your senator’s address at www.senate.gov/senators.

Record volunteers reading their postcards - putting a face to the message resonates with people. Make sure to tag YOUR senators (@YOURSENATOR#1 @YOURSENATOR#2) - along with these hashtags: #StopKavanaugh #SaveRoe @NARAL. Or you can email your photos and videos to [email protected]

Camera shy? NO WORRIES! Take a picture of your letter.

If a guest doesn’t want to be recorded, ask them to take a picture of their letter. Do the same thing with the picture as you did with the video: post it on social media, tagging YOUR senators (@YOURSENATOR#1 @YOURSENATOR#2) - along with these hashtags: #StopKavanaugh #SaveRoe @NARAL
