OVENIA Hostelling International SloveniaHostelling International Slovenia (HI Slovenia) is the only national representative of Slovenia in the International Youth Hostel Federation (Hostelling International – HI). HI is a non-governmental and non-profit organization active in about 90 countries in the world. The organization works closely together with UNESCO (United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization), WTO (World Tourism Organization) and other important international organization – also it was proclaimed the sixth largest organization that offers overnighting. With 4 million members it is one of the largest youth organizations in the world and is the only network of youth hostels with about 4.000 objects for spending the night, 1.5 million beds and 30-40 overnight stays annually.

HI has high standards for youth hostels, based on the treatment of the guests, security, cleanliness and privacy. But it is not its only role. Since it was established in 1932 it encourages young people for better intercultural understanding through informal education and peace, global friendship and environmentalism. The international organization, with a strong support of its national members, it offers interaction among youth of various nationalities and cultures, exchange of experience, getting to know their peers and after all themselves.

For this the organization has international programs for youth, above all the ones with lesser chances, through which we spread the mission of Hostelling International, which remained the same since 1932:

To promote the education of all young people of all nations, but especially young people of limited means, by encouraging in them a greater knowledge, love and care of the countryside and an appreciation of the cultural values of towns and cities in all parts of the world, and as ancillary thereto, to provide hostels or other accommodation in which there shall be no distinctions of race, nationality, colour, religion, sex, class or political opinions and thereby to develop a better understanding of their fellow men, both at home and abroad.

HI Slovenia, with more than 40 hostels around Slovenia, ensures safe, budget friendly and quality boarding for all types of groups. This includes the educational field trips with various themes (history, art or language courses) as well as extracurricular activities for schools, students, sporting and other groups – or simply friends who want a joint active holiday.

Hostel Ljubljana is located in the hotel wing of the building. Hostel has 35 beds (2-bed room, 3-bed room, 4-bed room, 6-bed room and two 10-bed rooms). The bathrooms are in the same hallway as the rooms and were renovated this year. Should the bathrooms be busy hostel guests can also use those in our sports centre. The rooms are equipped with the lockers. Ask for the locker keys at the reception. Bed linen and towels are included in the price. Groups can combine staying in the hostel rooms with hotel rooms (1, 2 or 3 bed rooms) with extra capacity for 100 guests. All hotel rooms have a bathroom and TV inside. There is a free wireless access for our guests in the lobby. We offer 50% discount for our sports activities (squash, badminton, fitness, table tennis, sauna).


Hostel Ljubljana is located close to the Ljubljana bypass in the eastern part of the city, which makes it an ideal platform for further exploration of Ljubljana and Slovenia. There is a free parking at the hostel. The surroundings of the hostel is calm and quiet, with lots of greenery. The river and Golovec hill are both nearby with many charming walking paths.

In front of the building there is a lovely summer garden and children playground. Furthermore, we provided bike stands to which bicycle

can be safely chained.

Excellent bus connections to the city centre (bus lines 5, 9, 13) and BTC shopping centre (bus line 24) are much valuable with regular buses running ever 10 to 15 minutes. Our guests can buy and top up Urbana card at the reception desk. We offer bike rental for two hours (2 EUR) and for a whole day (8 EUR). Taxi to the city centre cost approximately 5 EUR.

There are three excellent restaurants 5 minutes away on foot (Chinese restaurant, pizzeria/spaghetteria, Bosnian restaurant). There two supermarkets one across the street and the other not more than 200 metres away.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner

We offer self-service, continental type of breakfast from 7 AM till 10 AM for 3.50 EUR only. Sandwiches are available in our lovely bar. We often arrange lunches and dinners in the restaurants in the vicinity, less than 5 minutes walk, of the hostel (pizzeria/spagheteria, chinese restaurant, bosnian restaurant).

Breakfast: We offer self-service, continental type of breakfast from 7 AM till 10 AM for 3.50 EUR only.

Lunch / Dinner: We can organize lunch or dinner in the nearby restaurants.

Ljubljana castleLjubljana Castle is a major tourist attraction and a picturesque venue of numerous cultural events including concerts, theatre performances, exhibitions, congresses and official receptions, which add a special flavour to the lively pulse of life in Ljubljana.


Old townIt has managed to retain traces from all periods of its rich history; from the legacy of Roman Emona; through to the Renaissance, Baroque and Art Nouveau periods characterised in the house fronts and ornate doorways of the city centre, the romantic bridges adorning the Ljubljanica river, the lopsided rooftops and a park reaching deep into the city centre.

City hallLjubljana’s Town Hall (locally referred to as Mestna hiša, Magistrat or Rotovž), is used as the seat of the Municipality of Ljubljana. It was built in the late 15th century. The vestibule provides space for a late Gothic plaque with a coat of arms surviving from the original Town Hall building and a 17th century statue of Hercules with a lion, previously a part of the Hercules Fountain which used to stand in the middle of the nearby Stari trg square.

St. Nicholas CathedralLjubljana Cathedral stands above the square Pogačarjev trg and by Ciril-Metodov trg in the centre of the medieval town. By orders of the Academia Operosorum, it was built anew, on the foundations of the destroyed Romanesque-Gothic three-nave church with a long choir loft, which had already been the Bishops’ Seat since 1461. The Cathedral is an exemplary building of the mature Romanesque Baroque in Slovenia. Around it stand the Archbishop’s Palace, the Seminary, and a large vicarage.

Dragon BridgeBuilt between 1900 and 1901, the Dragon Bridge, originally named Jubilee Bridge (Jubilejni most), is one of Ljubljana’s most typical examples of Art Nouveau architecture. It is Slovenia’s first bridge paved with asphalt, Ljubljana’s first reinforced concrete bridge and one of the earliest reinforced concrete bridges in Europe. The Dragon Bridge across the Ljubljanica river was built to replace an old wooden bridge built in 1819 and known as the Butchers’ Bridge (Mesarski most).

Postojna CavesA fantastic web of tunnels, passages, galleries and halls, the astonishing diversity of Karst features, human fish as well as easy access with the only double track railway are certainly the main reasons for such popularity of the cave.
