OVENIA Hostelling International SloveniaHostelling International Slovenia (HI Slovenia) is the only national representative of Slovenia in the International Youth Hostel Federation (Hostelling International – HI). HI is a non-governmental and non-profit organization active in about 90 countries in the world. The organization works closely together with UNESCO (United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization), WTO (World Tourism Organization) and other important international organization – also it was proclaimed the sixth largest organization that offers overnighting. With 4 million members it is one of the largest youth organizations in the world and is the only network of youth hostels with about 4.000 objects for spending the night, 1.5 million beds and 30-40 overnight stays annually.

HI has high standards for youth hostels, based on the treatment of the guests, security, cleanliness and privacy. But it is not its only role. Since it was established in 1932 it encourages young people for better intercultural understanding through informal education and peace, global friendship and environmentalism. The international organization, with a strong support of its national members, it offers interaction among youth of various nationalities and cultures, exchange of experience, getting to know their peers and after all themselves.

For this the organization has international programs for youth, above all the ones with lesser chances, through which we spread the mission of Hostelling International, which remained the same since 1932:

To promote the education of all young people of all nations, but especially young people of limited means, by encouraging in them a greater knowledge, love and care of the countryside and an appreciation of the cultural values of towns and cities in all parts of the world, and as ancillary thereto, to provide hostels or other accommodation in which there shall be no distinctions of race, nationality, colour, religion, sex, class or political opinions and thereby to develop a better understanding of their fellow men, both at home and abroad.

PZS, with more than 40 hostels around Slovenia, ensures safe, budget friendly and quality boarding for all types of groups. This includes the educational field trips with various themes (history, art or language courses) as well as extracurricular activities for schools, students, sporting and other groups – or simply friends who want a joint active holiday.

In the spaces of a former bank a new hostel came to life that breathes with the city, its inhabitants and guests from all over the world on one of the most vibrant pedestrian streets in the city center. Hostel is featured among The Unusual and Unique hotels of the World.

Unique, modern and furnished according to latest trends, the hostel Tresor offers its guests maximum comfort. Along with the unforgettable experience of sleeping in a former conference room, breakfasting in an actual bank vault, reading funny quotes in every corner of the hostel.

Hostel Tresor offers accommodations for 28 rooms (3 of them dorms), 132 beds and is therefore suitable for groups.


Ljubljana has everything any other modern capital city has to offer, without having lost the kind and relaxed atmosphere you find in smaller towns. It is a vibrant and picturesque city with a twist. The region, which along with Ljubljana consists of 25 surrounding municipalities, is praised for its traditional hospitality, diverse landscape, cozy small towns, castles, village churches with rich artistic legacy and many possibilities for enjoying quality traditional Slovenian cuisine.

In central Slovenia the alpine world meets the Karst region to form the most spectacular natural and cultural features, such as: the Ljubljana swamp (Ljubljansko barje), a region of swamps and peat bogs, known for its prehistoric culture of pile dwellings and rare animal and plant species. The high mountain range plateau of Velika Planina in the Kamnik Alps, north of Ljubljana, with one of the oldest herding settlements in Europe and a skiing resort, the mysterious forests of the Polhogradec and Posavje hills with numerous tourist farms and inviting caves and fields of the karst region, will enrich the experience of the natural beauty Slovenia has to offer. Local sights and attractions

The Prešeren square and the old city centerLjubljana is considered an undiscovered European gem that many compare to Prague because of its architectural beauty. Its image was throughout history influenced by different historic periods, people and their work; the most famous of them being the works of the world renowned architect Jože Plečnik, who also designed the city center. Plečnik’s imprint is therefore felt everywhere, mostly by the banks of the Ljubljanica river, where his famous triple bridge (Tromostovje) is located. The banks offer a variety of interesting bars, pubs and restaurants, where travelers can wet their appetites over excellent food, desserts and drinks.

Cultural exploration – museums The museums in Ljubljana keep impressive archeological findings, praised even on the international level. The findings of the roman city Emona (now Ljubljana) can be seen in the city center. The roman heritage of Emona, which will celebrate its 2000th anniversary in 2014, is presented in an information spot “iEmona” in the Chopin underground passage next to the Kongres square and features descriptions of the life, history and influences of the once great empire.

The House of ExperimentsThe House of Experiments (Hiša eksperimentov) is designed for visitors of all ages. Open on Saturdays and Sundays from 11h to 19h and located approximately 500 meters from our hostel, the House of Experiments offers an ideal place for all visitors who look for intelligent entertainment, education, science; to learn, test themselves and exchange ideas.

Botanical Garden LjubljanaBecause of its geographical position, Slovenia is a paradise for European botanists. The garden was built in 1810, which makes it the oldest garden of its kind in the south-east part of Europe and hosts around 5000 different plants from all over the world. It is open every day, also in winter time and the entrance is free unless you take a guided tour.
