House building in the Eastern region drives national growth The Eastern region is leading the way in house building according to new data from the National House Building Council (NHBC). The number of new homes registered to be built in the UK has topped 156,000 in 2015 – a continued increase of 7% on the previous year, new NHBC figures have revealed. NHBC’s latest data also revealed that new homes registered in the Eastern region were up 23% on the previous year. Delivery of new homes in the eastern region has been driven by a number of quality developers such as Larkfleet Homes, which has a number of developments in Bourne, Oakham, Peterborough, Stamford and Whittlesey. In total, 156,140 new homes were registered by NHBC in 2015 – compared to 146,359 in 2014. The figures show NHBC registered 75% more new homes in 2015 than it did at the time of the housing crash in 2009. Private sector registrations increased by 7% (118,611 in 2015; 110,674 in 2014), with the public sector increasing by 5% (37,529 in 2015; 35,685 in 2014). The figures also showed that NHBC registered 75% more new homes in 2015 than it did at the time of the housing crash in 2009. Continuing the trend from 2014, the number of detached homes registered over the last 12 months (42,173) is the highest for over a decade. Additionally, the number of semi-detached homes registered in 2015 (35,423) is the highest in more than 20 years (36,757 in 1994). Commenting on the annual statistics, NHBC Chief Executive Mike Quinton, said: “2015 was a year for continued housing growth in the UK. Both the public and private sectors have performed well and we have seen encouraging levels of house-building across most regions of the country. “The detached home continues its resurgence, with our figures showing that house builders are building the highest number of detached properties for over a decade, with semi-detached homes also at their highest level in more than 20 years. “There is still a way to go before we are building the levels of new homes that were seen before the economic downturn, but 2015 represents consolidation on the growth seen over the last three years.” Karl Hick said: “Daryl joins us at a time where we are expanding rapidly and taking the company in new directions with Larkfleet Homes South West and Larkfleet Homes Suffolk and Norfolk. He brings extensive experience and expertise in land development and will work with the rest of the team to grow our national presence as we continue to go from strength to strength.” 2014 146,359 156,140 2015 75% more new homes registered than in 2009

Larkfleet Homes named as House Builder of The YearLarkfleet Homes has won the ‘Small Housebuilder of the Year’ title at the national HouseBuilder awards – often referred to as the ‘Oscars of the housebuilding industry’. Ben Roskow, publishing director of HouseBuilder Media and chairman of the judges, travelled to Larkfleet House in Bourne, to present the award to directors Karl and Helen Hick.

Karl said: “We were absolutely delighted to win this award and thank Ben for taking the time to visit us and present the trophy. It is very much appreciated and will take pride of place in the reception area here at Larkfleet House.”

Larkfleet Homes also achieved a 'highly commended' in the ‘Sustainable Housebuilder of the

Year’ category and was one of the three finalists in the ‘Best Retirement Scheme’ category for The Croft developments at Bourne and Baston.

Ben added: “It has been a pleasure to come along and present this award. Karl and Helen have shown me around their headquarters and we have had time to discuss the various developments in the Larkfleet business, such

as the launch of Larkfleet South West and Larkfleet Norfolk and Suffolk.

“It is easy to see why the business is proving to be such a success and why these types of awards are coming their way.”

No ordinary trainingWe recently attended a student event at Greater Peterborough University Technical College (GPUTC) as part of our commitment to support young people locally and link with our sponsorship of the college. The event hosted pupils from a range of schools in the Greater Peterborough areas and demonstrated that GPUTC is no ordinary college.

As part of our involvement in the day we presented students with a sustainable wooden house frame, constructed in the same way as a Larkfleet new home but in miniature. They were able to work with the frame to see if they could fit it together to form the skeleton for a new home.

Attending on behalf of Larkfleet was planning and project manager Michael Temple from our sister company Lark Energy. Michael said: “We hope the students benefited from this real life project and that it added some useful context to their lessons. These sessions help demonstrate to students that the involvement of industry professionals will prepare them for the workplace and provide valuable hands-on experience.”

The Greater Peterborough UTC specialises in built environment and engineering projects, offering a world-class technical experience and training which includes direct support from local employers such as Larkfleet.

Under starter’s orders at Larkfleet HomesLarkfleet Homes CEO Karl Hick recently invited key contractors and subcontractors who work on the company's Peterborough, Rutland and Cambridgeshire developments to a night out at Peterborough Greyhound Stadium. The team enjoyed a good evening following the various races and backing a few of the winning dogs. Larkfleet Homes also sponsored one of the races and Karl was delighted to present the winning trainer and owner with their trophies.

Karl said: "It is important to relax as a team and enjoy some time together away from work. Larkfleet has big plans for the future and it is vital to have the support of our key contractor and subcontractors so we can deliver these and ensure our customers are welcomed into their new homes on target.

"We continually strive to improve the quality of our new homes and our speed of delivery while maintaining or improving site safety and reducing our environmental footprint. The expertise and skills of our construction teams allow us to do this and it was good to have

an opportunity to talk informally with our contractors about how they could help.

"Going forward, it is important to make sure construction skills are passed on to the next generation. Larkfleet Homes is keen to continue development of our apprenticeship schemes and we are working with Greater Peterborough University Technical College to help develop courses for those interested in all areas of construction."
