Deciding to live on campus is a tough decision – it’s exciting and scary at the same time. SVSU residential students tell us that when they toured campus, the decision was an easy one. Our modern and spacious housing has been called the best in the state, partially because of some of the great features that are not offered other places.

But even great living space isn’t enough. SVSU offers impressive student and residential life programs that provide the opportunity to create a rich student experience and memories that last a lifetime! And the food … SVSU features five outstanding dining establishments that offer a variety of choices to suit every taste and schedule.

Living on campus isn’t required at SVSU … but each year, more and more SVSU students, particularly freshmen, choose to “live in the center of it all.”

“ResNet” NETWORK All SVSU housing units are equipped with high-speed network ports and wireless service for each student. Limited wireless access is located in select locations of campus buildings. The suites are designated for first-year students. The unique apartment-like design provides students with a spacious living/study room, private bathroom, kitchenette, lots of storage and two-person bedrooms. A limited number of single bedrooms are available at an additional cost.

Living Center North, Living Center South, and Living Center Southwest also house first-year students. The four room styles in the building are complemented by study lounges, lobby desk services and laundry facilities on each floor.

Two- or three-person efficiency units. Four- or five-bedroom apartments house six or seven students, respectively.

LIVING CENTERS

Students who qualify for one of the university’s select freshman living/learning communities will reside in a designated area of First Year Living. For each program, students will be notified of their eligibility and invited to participate in the application process. CARdINAL bUSINESS EdGE PROGRAMThe Cardinal Business Edge Program is a community-based program for incoming freshman with a business major. This program is designed to build personal and professional networks and leadership skills, as well as prepare you for a future career in business. Selected participants will enroll in specially designed business courses the first two years, develop team-building skills, participate in corporate outings to meet business executives and work directly with faculty mentors. A travel stipend is also included. (Residential or Commuter Students)

FIRST YEAR RESIdENTIAL EXPERIENCE (FYRE) PROGRAMThe First Year Residential Experience (FYRE) program is a community based program that assists first year residential students in their academic transition to SVSU. Selected participants will attend Camp FYRE in August which includes teambuilding, classroom tours, and interactions with SVSU staff. Throughout the first year, students receive academic advising and support through tutoring, career path and academic major exploration, and programming with faculty and staff outside the classroom. (Residential Students Only)

FIT INTO COLLEGE (FIT)FIT into College is a program that focuses on wellness including: nutrition, healthy cooking, healthy living, sleep, taking care of oneself mentally and spiritually, time management, and a focus on academics and personal growth. Selected participants will attend a FIT Camp before classes begin to meet other like-minded students in the program and get acquainted with campus. Throughout the first year, students will attend weekly information sessions and meet regularly with staff members from the Campus Recreation and Residential Life Offices. (Residential or Commuter Students)

FRESHMAN INTEREST COMMUNITIES

FOUNdATION SCHOLARS PROGRAMThe Foundation Scholars Program is designed to create a close-knit community of highly talented individuals who are looking for an opportunity to enrich their college experience with both social and academic interactions combined. During the program, students will elect to complete a study abroad experience or a civic engagement/service learning project. Priority registration and a travel or service learning stipend is included. Selected participants will enroll in two specially designed courses their freshman year and attend an overnight retreat before classes begin. (Residential or Commuter Students)

HONORS PROGRAMThe Honors Program allows talented students to pursue their major and minor degree work in a distinctive academic environment that enhances their college experience. Selected participants will enroll in specially designed Honors courses in a liberal arts based curriculum their first two years and work closely with faculty in research, creative work and proposal writing (based on student interest and career goals). Priority registration, a travel stipend and potential funding for research projects are also included. (Residential or Commuter Students)

LIVING LEAdERSHIP PROGRAMThe Living Leadership Program is designed to provide freshmen with a community where leadership is the true focus. Selected participants live and learn together in a required residential community on campus. Themes for Living Leadership include “emerging leadership” (freshman year) and “mentorship” (second year). Students will engage in a Kickstart Camp before classes begin to build connections with other leaders early on. Students will participate in leadership development opportunities, become an active member of an on campus organization and participate in community service projects. (Residential Students Only)

CARdINALS IN ACTIONCardinals in Action is a group of first-year students who share a common interest in Community Service. Working together, they strive to make community service an integrated part of their life while interacting in a positive social and academic environment. Selected participants will engage in organized service projects, participate in social functions and community building activities. Opportunities to connect with community service organizations both on and off campus will be provided as part of this program. Students will move in early to attend a CIA orientation. (Residential Students Only)

UPPERCLASS HOUSINGUNIVERSITY VILLAGERooms in the Village are spacious and modern. Located in the south-central and south-west parts of campus, the Village is home to more than 800 residents. The community consists of four-person, four-bedroom town homes and a limited number of two-person, two-bedroom apartments and private single efficiency units.

PINE GROVELocated in the north part of campus, Pine Grove is positioned between the Regional Education Center and natural surroundings. Pine Grove is home to more than 400 residents. The community consists of four-person, four-bedroom units and four-person shared bedroom units.

AFFINITY RESIdENCESSpecial university programs coordinated by academic and/or administrative units and SVSU Registered Student Organizations are invited to participate in a program that will accommodate student member group living arrangements in the Pine Grove townhouse style housing. These Affinity residences allow for student cohorts with shared goals to live in adjacent apartments.

GLObAL COMMUNITYThis community is for upperclass students who wish to participate in a cultural exchange. Each four-person, four-bedroom apartment in Pine Grove has two international and two domestic students. Students will have the opportunity to build a strong community with people from other countries and cultures. In addition to sharing the living space, there are programs for the Global Community residents that expose them to a variety of cultural experiences.

STUdENT LIFE CENTERThe Student Life Center is a centrally-located hub on-campus where students gather to relax, play games, attend meetings and events, hang out with friends or make new ones.

SVSU has more than 120 registered student organizations in a range of interests including academic, Greek, honorary, social, community service, spiritual, residential and recreational. Many of our organizations are award-winning and dramatically improve the campus and student life experience.

MARKETPLACE AT dOANThe Marketplace at Doan is Saginaw Valley’s upscale all-you-care-to-eat residential restaurant with a classy and relaxing atmosphere. Marketplace at Doan features eight unique concepts including a Mongolian grill, brick oven pizza station, and a full soup and salad bar.

ALbERT E’S FOOd COURTAlbert E’s is located adjacent to the Zahnow Library. It has a Quiznos, Greens-to-Go, Papa John’s and Grille Works along with a selection of quick, delicious and healthy options for students on the go.

STARbUCKS • EINSTEIN bROTHERS bAGELS • PAPA JOHN’SStop in and order your favorite foods and beverages at one of these world famous eateries. Grab a bite on the go or dine in.

THE C-STORE • PROVISIONS ON dEMANd (POd) MINI MARTConvenience is key – and the C-Store and POD Mini Mart provide just that. The C-Store is located in the Student Center rotunda while the POD Mini Mart can be found adjacent to the bookstore in Curtiss Hall. Each provide a large selection of convenience items.

Freshmen & first-year transfer students living on campus are required to enroll in the dining membership program. Cash, check and credit cards are accepted at all dining Services locations.
