How I made my album cover

First of all I selected the photo I wanted to use and imported it into

Photoshop

I then began editing the vibrancy, colour balance, hue and brightness.

After editing my photo looked like this. I didn’t want it to be black and white and you can still see the green of the leaves. It has made the photo look faded and old and slightly eerie. However by keeping it still quite bright it has stopped it from looking gothic.

However, I felt it looked too plain like this and I decided I wanted to enhance the colour of the skirt to draw your attention to the artist.

To do this I used the lasso tool and carefully drew around the skirt, which looked like this.

I then had to select this area and copy and paste it into a new layer to then be edited.

After editing the skirt, the front cover now looks like this. As you can see the

colour on the skirt is a lot brighter and the purple stands out against the grey scale of the background.

The last thing I did in Photoshop was cutting down the photo into the square size I wanted to then import into InDesign and add the text.

Once imported into InDesign I had to adjust the size of the photo to fit with the guidelines.

I then began to experiment with fonts and colour for my artists name and title of the album. Until I eventually decided on these two.

The finished front cover then looked like this.

This meant I had to use ruler guides to make sure the photo was positioned correctly and so in line with the front cover.

I only used a small part of my original photo for the front cover, so I decided to continue the photo to use as my traycard.

As well as the ruler guides, I also used the measuring tool to measure the size of my model on the front to get the dimensions of the photo equal on both the front and the back.

After all the measuring, aligning and cropping of the photo I was left with this as my tray card.

Now that I had my photo I had to position my song list and my album credits. I decided to use the same font for my song list as I did for my title.

To finish I just needed to add the couple of music logos and bar code and parental advisory sticker.
