Cutting noise and vibrationGMT supplies rubber and rubber-to-metal bonded elements to reduce and eliminate unwanted vibration and noise in all kinds of construction equipment. High-frequency loads require elastomer qualities specially adapted to this application.
These applications typically have very high levels of mechanically induced vibration and impact stresses which have to be isolated. The large product range of GMT mountings, which have been especially developed for this purpose, include:
• Elastomers for vibratory hammers;• Buffers and rails for vibrating drum-rollers and vibration compaction plates;• Buffers for hand grip;• Cab suspension elements;• Engine bearings/aggregate bearings; • Axle bearings.
The GMT Group is a privately owned specialist company for the development and manufacture of rubber-to-metal-bonded elements and molded rubber parts. Its long expertise and extensive know-how
ensure an efficient and reliable processing of orders.
More than 930 employees in its companies worldwide are dedicated to providing the off-highway market with high-quality products.
Production plants are located in Germany, China, India, Ireland, Malaysia, Switzerland and the USA, and it operates sales and engineering offices in the UK, Austria, and France.

HOW TO BREATHE MORE EASILY
Siac, with its 50-year-long experience in the off-highway cab manufacturing market, has always been very attentive to the comfort and safety of operators. As a result of this expertise, the company has succeeded in applying specific safety norms to its cabs dedicated to the agricultural market, with the aim of preventing the inhalation of the chemical products during plant-protection treatments.
European Standard EN 15695–1; -2:2009, which regulates the level of exposure of the operator to dangerous substances such as pesticides and liquid fertilizers, is strictly applied by Siac engineers
during the design and development of cabs for agricultural, forestry tractors and self-propelled machines:
These standards concern:Cat 1: Cab not providing a specified level of protection against hazardous substances; Cat 2: Cab providing protection against dusts;Cat 3: Cab providing protection against dusts and aerosols; Cat 4: Cab providing protection against dusts, aerosols and vapors
and three categories of filters: Cat 2: Dust filters; Cat 3: Dust and aerosol filters;Cat 4: Dust, aerosol and vapor
filters tested with cyclohexane method.
Siac developed and manufactured its first EN 15695 Category 4 cab in 2012, for Hardi Evrard’s EVO XL 01 sprayer. This cab completely complies with the characteristics stated by the norm for Category 4 cabs, such as internal pressurization of the cab ≥20Pa with respect to an exterior, fresh air intake system able to filter dust, aerosols, vapors and fresh filtered airflow rate ≥30m3/h.

Siac celebrates 50 years of cab historyItalian cab manufacturer Siac’sroadmap is synonymous with thehistory of driving units and cabins foragricultural and earthmovingmachinery. In the early 1970s theagricultural market considered theintroduction of equipment moreevolved than safety driving units toprotect the driver from climate andenvironmental conditions.Siac was among the firstmanufacturers of cab structures thattackled this market by developing thefirst cabs using a more industrialapproach: the first customers to relyon Siac were Same, Landini, Fiat,Massey Ferguson, and Deutz. It wasn’t long before the requestscoming from the market became moreand more demanding in terms ofprotection from noise, climate, pollution, vibrations and heat: allelements that bothered operators bylimiting their efficiency as well asbeing physically tiring. Siac responded bydeveloping cabs with light butresistant structures, meeting safetyrequirements (directive 201/73January 1974), highlighting visibilityand developing, in cooperation withtop level partners, insulating andaesthetic elements with new, greatinnovations and captivating design.Due to the strong market demand,Siac focused on fundamentalcomponents like complete pedalassemblies, steering columns(patented solutions), heating/airconditioning groups, PU componentsfor its own needs and solutionproposals to its customers’ problems.Such hectic activity has beensupported by a constant evolution ofproduction equipment, as well as ofdesigning tools and structuralcalculations, which drastically cuthomologation timelines. The requested volumes kept growingand some customers evaluated theidea of integrating such an important
part of the product – the cab – to their machines. Siac had already foreseenthis natural development and leveraged its experience on the agriculturalmarket to enter into the construction one. Thanks to such technological knowhow, the first cabs for FiatHitachi wereborn at Siac’s plant, with cab structures produced completely from deepdrawnmetalsheet and with the use of – among the first in Europe – 3D metal sheetlasercutting technology. This brave choice enabled Siac to reach automotivelevels of quality, even for small/medium batch volumes. The market welcomed Siac’s determination, as well as its capability to proposeavantgarde solutions thanks to a modern engineering department andevolved production equipment with robotized welding lines and 2D3D lasercutting equipment.Customers recognized Siac as a leader proposing solutions to the problemsthey faced during the development of their products. At that moment, the firstcabs for Liebherr excavators, Fiat Hitachi’s wheel loaders, dozers andtelehandlers, Mecalac excavators, Furukawa’s wheel loaders, Komatsu’s miniand midi excavators, and Caterpillar’s track loaders became consolidatedproducts in Siac’s production as well as products that are satisfying for thecustomers. Thanks to such important cooperation, Siac was able to develop technicalinnovations and solutions such as the first curved, onepiece windshield,

pasted directly on the metallic frame of wheel loader cabs for Fiat Hitachi; thefirst modular cab for Liebherr excavators (with just one modular cab, it waspossible to have three different sizes: narrow, standard and wide cab); andCaterpillar’s TTL cabs with front pillars covered in PU trim, reaching a topaesthetic level. Now, in Europe and worldwide, new local and global customers such as Volvo,O&K, JLG and Caterpillar, rely on Siac expertise, with new products beingdeveloped for Komatsu and Claas, along with the evolution of Liebherr’sSyscabine. The latter, also known as Alpha Cab, with just one cab structure, allows Liebherr to have the same modular cab sizes plus two solutions fordoors: the classic hinged design with a 180° opening, and the more innovativesliding door (patented), especially studied for a narrow accessibility platform(≤ 700 mm).Always looking forward, studying the market evolution, and integratingcustomer’s objectives, in order to anticipate its needs and prevent potentialproblems, plus a neverending passion for the job and absolute respect andsatisfaction for its customers and, even sometimes, stubbornness in convincingthem to follow new ideas: this is Siac’s way of thinking.March 24, 2016
