1) Be sure to measure in a location that is flat and open
Ex. Patio, Deck, Top of car, Grass (last resort)
-The best option would be to place a 2 x 2 ft light-colored
board in the area at the start of the season and measure on
the board

2) As soon as the snow has ended, try to take at least 5
measurements in the area for an average snow accumulation
• In cases with severe drifting, take an average of the drifted
areas and then an average of the scoured areas.
3) Measurements should be made to the nearest tenth of an inch
(ex. 4.3 inches)

4) After measuring, be sure to clear off the area of any snow
5) For cases where snow accumulation is less than 0.1 inches,
