Impact upon your organisation and management system
“What do you believe will be the likely impact of
the changes upon your system(s) & your
organisation?”
• Some small changes to most areas?
• Some greater enhancement and clarification in some
areas, no change in others?
• Significant enhancement involving lots of additional tasks
in many areas?
Update your Transition Plan
BSi Launch Event – How to Prepare for ISO14001:2015 Certification

BSi Launch Event – How to Prepare for ISO14001:2015 Certification
Transition step 5 : assessment
Internal assessment to check readiness for certification
• On-line tools e.g. LRQA’s pathway
• Internal audit / gap analysis
External readiness assessment
• Certification body / consultancy / independent assurance provider gap
analysis
BSi Launch Event – How to Prepare for ISO14001:2015 Certification
Transition step 6 : certification
Source documents are issued by the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) – e.g.
Information Document (ID)10 EMS giving guidance on transition
• CBs can use these to formulate their own policies
• Defines 3 year transition period for ISO14001:2015
• Does not give any milestones on cessation of outgoing standard
• Or mandatory adoption of incoming standard
LRQA are proposing
• 18 months after issue no more Initial Assessments to outgoing standard
• Throughout the transition process conformance to the existing Standard will
need to be demonstrated to retain certification
PLEASE TRANSITION AS SOON AS PRACTICABLE TO DO SO
BSi Launch Event – How to Prepare for ISO14001:2015 Certification
What I will do
• One of the key questions that assessors are being asked is:
What will you be looking at?
• Followed rapidly by
How can I demonstrate what you need?
BSi Launch Event – How to Prepare for ISO14001:2015 Certification
What will assessors be looking for?
If we just reflect on what we have been discussing
• Why have we focused of the areas that we have?
• Because these are the key areas of change for most systems
So back to the question:
• What will assessors be looking for?
• Assessors will be looking for evidence that organisation have done what we
have been talking about!
Before you transition, assessors will be able to help you formulate your transition
plan
• How you intend to address the things you need to do
• How you intend to demonstrate that you meet the requirements.
BSi Launch Event – How to Prepare for ISO14001:2015 Certification
What will assessors be looking for?
Core focus will be on
• Context of the organisation
• Leadership
• Planning
• Performance
• Assessors will be looking for you to be able to demonstrate that a context
evaluation has been undertaken
• It is not for the assessor to be able to de-cypher information provided
• The information needs to be clearly demonstrable
• How this is done is entirely up to you
• No single mechanism can be applied or recommended as all businesses and
those that work within them are different.
