How to Use the Online Application Form The following are instructions on how to apply for the Probationary Firefighter career opportunity using the online application form. Please note that you can only apply for this career opportunity using the online application.

Click on the Probationary Firefighter career opportunity link. The Toronto Fire Services Recruitment page appears with the job posting link.

Click on the link Probationary Firefighter 2009, under the Job Title.

Tip: For your records, please print each page of the online application process, as you complete it, and before you proceed to the next page.

The job posting appears. Please read it carefully. Then click the Apply Online Now button. As a new applicant, you must register yourself. Under the text Register Now!, click on the link: Click here Complete all mandatory fields with red text and marked with an asterisk. Please ensure an accurate Email Address is entered.

TIP: To create a unique username try entering your first and last name followed by a number

NOTE: Record your User Name and Password. To reduce the risk of corrupt data files and to assist us in maintaining a secure database, DO NOT share your User Name and Password with anyone.

Scroll down to the Getting to know you survey. Please note if you are an employee of the City of Toronto, enter your SAP employee number in the field provided. The mandatory question in red text, marked with an asterisk must be completed to proceed further with the online application. Although some questions are optional, the City of Toronto would benefit from the completion of the entire survey. When complete, click the Submit Registration

button at the bottom of the survey. If you receive a Security Information pop up window at any time during your online application process, example below, click the Yes button.

Congratulations! You have completed the registration portion of the online application form.

Next, complete your Personal Profile. There are 4 steps:

● Step 1 Contact, Education and Experience Information ● Step 2 Job Location, Job Type, Employment Eligibility, Availability

Information

● Step 3 Resume Information

● Step 4 Core Skills, Job Positions Inventory, Cover Letter Information

In Step 1 complete all mandatory fields in red text, marked with an asterisk. Use upper and lower case text similar to the sample provided below. Email address should be entered in lower case only. Once completed, click the Save and Continue button at the bottom of the page.

You are now at Step 2 of the Personal Profile. Complete all mandatory fields in red text, marked with an asterisk. Please note there is only one selection for the Location field: Canada-Ontario-Toronto. Input is required in the Salary/Rate Range fields for information only, this will not be used for screening, please enter an amount greater than 0.

Once completed, click the Save and Continue button at the bottom of the page. Please wait while the system processes your data. You are now at Step 3 of the Personal Profile. You are required to enter a descriptive title for your profile; it can be anything you like, i.e. Firefighter Recruitment or Firefighter Application. This is for your personal reference only. In the Resume text box, enter your resume. You can type in your resume or upload your resume from a file (i.e. Word document) using the File Manager

button.

To upload your resume from your data files using the File Manager, click the Add New button to browse the files in your directory.

Click the Browse… button, select the file you want to upload.

Click the Upload button. To view the file/resume that has been uploaded, click on the Title that you entered for your profile. A pop up window will appear. Click the Open button. This will display your file/resume.

You can edit, delete and preview your resume using the formatting options in the toolbars. To preview your resume, click the Preview Resume and Continue

button.

Click the Edit Resume button to continue editing.

Once your resume editing is complete, click the Save and Continue button. You are now at Step 4 of the Personal Profile. This is the last step! This is a Core Skills and Job Positions inventory. Select at least one Core Skill from the drop down menu and at least one Job Position. Enter the number of years using that skill and the number of years in the position selected, respectively. If you have additional Skills you would like to add, click on the link: Add More Skills

For the Job Positions, if none of the options apply to you, select “Other”. When complete, click the Save and Continue button at the bottom.

To Remove a Core Skill or Job Position selection, go to the Remove column and place a checkmark in the field you wish to remove. Click the Save and Continue button and the field will be removed.

WARNING: If you click on the Delete Profile button, you will delete your resume. You will have to re-enter your resume information again.

The next screen to appear is the Job Confirmation. It confirms the job posting you are applying for. You can enter a Cover Letter at this stage. Enter a title for your Cover Letter, it can be whatever you like, i.e. Probationary Firefighter, Application for Firefighter etc. This is for your personal reference only. You can copy and paste your cover letter into the text box or you can type it in. You can also preview your cover letter and format it.

Once completed, scroll down the page to the Questionnaire. Questions marked with an asterisk are mandatory. Once submitted, the responses to this questionnaire cannot be edited. At the bottom of the questionnaire, click the Confirm and Submit Application button.

PLEASE NOTE THAT ONCE YOU CONFIRM AND SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION, YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO REVISE IT.

Congratulations! You have successfully submitted an online application for the Probationary Firefighter 2009 career opportunity. An acknowledgement screen appears thanking you for your application and also provides confirmation of the Job ID # and Job Title that you have applied for. You will also receive an email confirmation sent to your registered email address. You can review the Job Posting and the Questionnaire by clicking on the Application History link in the acknowledgement screen. Once submitted, the Questionnaire cannot be changed. If after reviewing the Job Posting, you want to return to the Application History

screen, click the Back button. If after reviewing the Questionnaire, you want to return to the Application History screen, click the Back to Application Status button at the bottom.

To review your application, click on the link job seeker desktop. A summary of your online application will appear. You can edit your contact information in your Personal Profile here. After exiting the online application form, you can review your application until June 15, 2009 (12 noon) by entering this web address: www. toronto.ca/fire/recruitment. Click on the Probationary Firefighter link.

Log in, using your Username and Password that you recorded earlier. If you have forgotten your Username or Password, click on the link Forgot your Username or Password? You will be prompted to enter your email address.

Click the Submit button. Your Username and Password will be sent to you immediately. Once logged in successfully, your status will display that you have Already applied for the Probationary Firefighter career opportunity. If you would like to review your application or make edits to your personal contact information only, click on the link here to return to the summary of your Personal Profile. The summary of your Personal Profile will display. You can click the Edit links to change your personal contact information. Click on the Save and Continue

button to save your changes.
