How to Write A NOVEL: 5 Steps to Get Writing NOW

The secrets, in your hand.

It’s kind of like magic.

So you want to write a novel? GREAT!

But maybe you don’t know where to start, or maybe you

don’t have any ideas.

NO PROBLEM.

1.

Get your materials together, whether that be pen and

paper, typewriter, or laptop.

Also, get some sort of timer.

2.

Go somewhere you can be productive.

Examples: a cafe; the laundry room; your bed;

under a tree.

CHOOSE!

3.

Set the timer for 10 minutes if you are starting

out, or 30 minutes if you are experienced.

On your marks, get set…

START!

4.

Write anything,

write the first words that appear in your brain,

and keep doing this OVER AND OVER without

pausing,

always writing as fast or faster than you can think.

REMEMBER:

It doesn’t have to make sense.

It doesn’t have to look pretty.

It can be a muddy train wreck of words.

That’s what we WANT to see.

That’s what freewriting is.

5.

When the timer runs out,

rest for a minute,

regain your breath,

and let the cramp in your hand die down.

Now read over your writing,

and note any interesting passages.

Use these to gain ideas for your writing.

You may have not written a novel in 10 minutes,

but you are one step further to knowing the novel that is

in you.

6.

I wrote a book on this.

It’s about how to write your novel from the ground up.
