COUNTY ORGANISERS 2014

TOURNAMENT DIRECTOR PAUL HUTCHINS

WELCOMES YOU TO THE 2014 HSBC ROAD TO WIMBLEDON

Hi everyone,

The HSBC Road to Wimbledon in 2014 has some new plans. There is a mix of the original playing format with new ideas to encourage more players to participate.

The original format of clubs & parks organising their own Road to Wimbledon at 14 & under remains the same except for the rating of the players.

Schools are also welcome and we are piloting a scheme for 2014 to encourage schools to enter with full details explained inside.

In 2014 players playing in their club or park at age 11-14 will need to be in a rating band of 10/9/8/7 as of 1 April 2014 (non rated players are welcome to sign up for a BTM & rating).

This will mean that players of a similar standard will be playing with each other with more equal opportunities to qualify for the County Finals and then National Finals while the higher more experienced juniors will be competing starting at Regional stages and then National Finals.

All the tennis facilities that enter will have at least their winners (consideration by the county if the runner up also qualifies) represented at the County Finals and then 48 boys and 48 girls will qualify for the National Finals at Wimbledon in August 2014.

The NEW Regional stages will be for players 14 & under who are in a rating band of 6 or higher i.e. 6/5/4/3 as of 1 June 2014.

There will be seven Regional venues where players will enter individually direct online from 1 June. Players who enter and are accepted will compete in their geographical region with up to 32 boys and 16 girls draw played on the weekend 12/13 July 2014.

At each of the seven venues (assuming a 32 & 16 draw) 4 boys and 2 girls will qualify for the 32 boys and 16 girls National Finals at Wimbledon.

Separating out the standards will mean a better chance of good matches and enjoyable challenges to compete knowing that all players will have opportunities to qualify for the National Finals whether they start at club, park or school level or starting at the Regional stages.

In 2014 there are also more ‘added benefits’ for tennis facilities and players if they enter the Road to Wimbledon.

The All England Club and LTA are right behind the new ideas for 2014.

In June 2013 the Club announced the formation of the new Wimbledon Foundation encompassing many of the Club’s junior, educational and charity links which is explained inside this brochure as well as the National Finals ‘going International’ with India boys and girls qualifying to come to Wimbledon.

I would also like to thank both HSBC and the LTA for their support and of course the HSBC Ambassador Tim Henman who will continue to play his part in promoting the event and especially being involved in the popular tennis clinics with Head Coach of the All England Club Dan Bloxham.

Please contact me direct or your County Organiser if after reading the information in this entry brochure you would like more information.

Thank you for your support.

Paul Hutchins Tournament Director

‘Supporting junior development and education and the different charitable causes we are involved in is very much part of the ethos of the Club. With the new Wimbledon Foundation announced before the 2013 Championships I am really pleased with all the new plans to expand the Road to Wimbledon both in the UK and India and thank everyone involved in their support’.

Philip Brook, Chairman of the All England Lawn Tennis Club

‘‘

‘I really enjoyed attending the National Finals at Wimbledon in August and saw some great tennis. So many

families, players and coaches enjoyed the Wimbledon experience. We as a

bank are very pleased to support junior and community projects like the HSBC

Road to Wimbledon. We are excited for the plans in the UK and in India

and will continue out long established relationship with Tim Henman as an Ambassador. I would like to thank all

those people who give the event their time and support’.

Dan HowlettHSBC Head of UK Corporate Banking

THE WIMBLEDON FOUNDATION & INDIA JUNIOR DEVELOPMENT

I have now been a number of times to India and it is fascinating to see how keen the juniors are. The links with the All India Tennis Association with these activities will be very exciting’.Paul HutchinsTournament Director

‘‘

‘‘

The Wimbledon Foundation is a non-profit organisation established by the All England Club. It has a mission to use the heritage and resources of Wimbledon to improve people’s lives, especially those of young people.

Building on the annual success of The Championships, the Wimbledon Foundation aims to enhance its extensive programme of community, charity and development activities both in the UK and internationally.

A principal theme of the Foundation is belief in the power of sport (and, in this case, particularly tennis) to provide opportunities to assist people, especially the young, with education and personal development.

The Foundation’s first international presence will be in India starting with two Road to Wimbledon 14 & under events in January followed by the top 16 boys and girls who qualify for

the Junior Masters in April held in Delhi. The last two boys and girls will qualify to be invited to the UK National HSBC Finals in August 2014 at Wimbledon.

Also in January the HSBC Road to Wimbledon Ambassador Tim Henman, along with Head Coach of the All England Club Dan Bloxham, will conduct a series of educational community tennis clinics in Mumbai and Delhi to juniors of all standards.
