The Human Services Center (HSC) has been recognized for their 14-unit studio apartment building on North Street, that it has received accreditation from the Society of Environmentally Responsible

Facilities (SERF). The Center is the fi rst organization in Pennsylvania to successfully go through the SERF

certifi cation process.

The Center was also notifi ed that its Fisher building has met the requirements to be certifi ed as an Energy Star building. In order to achieve Energy Star status, a building has to reach an effi ciency rating that is higher than 75% of similarly sized buildings.

Roger Smith, HSC’s Director of Community Services, states, “As a matter of policy, the Center endorses sustainable practices in the development and operation of its facilities.” HSC’s Executive Director Dr. Dennis Nebel noted that the Center is in the forefront of mental health organizations statewide as well as nationally in implementing green building technologies.
