Embedding IL & the library into the course
Workshop Goals | Faculty will be able to:
access new or upgraded catalogs and databases via the library portal.
identify interactive web resources that will increase your awareness of emerging trends in the integration of information literacy and pedagogy.
enhance or revise at least one assignment in a course that you will teach in Fall 2009 by embedding information resources and strategies into that assignment.

The Current Reality:Many Tech Savvy (& non-tech savvy) Students
read less (print)
write less (with pen and paper)
don’t know about the wide variety of information choices available to them (Google-it)
don’t know how to search bibliographic or full-text databases effectively
don’t know how to evaluate information
Current IL initiatives (library)
Suggest UG Freshman complete TILT quiz
Provide INFOLit sessions (45min-3hr)
Tend to promote big box databases e.g. EBSCO
Sessions & Reference Desk exchanges focus on when and where to access information
Future IL initiatives !?!
Collaborate with faculty
Incorporate INFOLit session(s) into the syllabus
Move beyond big-box databases -- consider having multiple INFOLit sessions (f2f & virtual)
Assess effectiveness via class assignments e.g. annotated bibliography
