Dorado2100 G2 High-speed hardware platform

Dual controllers and load balancing: Active-active dual controllers

can separately process I/O requests from application servers. Loads

on the dual controllers are well balanced.

High-speed bus and I/O channels: The system uses the PCIe 3.0 bus

technology and SAS 2.0 I/O channel technology, so the exchange

bandwidth inside the system reaches 48 GB/s.

Multi-core CPUs and multi-channel memory: The system uses

Romley 8-core CPUs, each of which has three memory channels, so

the communication bandwidth among CPUs reaches 38.4 GB/s.

High-speed interfaces: There are 8 x 8 Gbit/s onboard Fibre Channel

ports, and eight more 8 Gbit/s Fibre Channel or 10GE TOE ports, or

four more 40 Gbit/s InfiniBand ports can be added into the system.

Huawei SSD self-check

Dorado2100 G2 focuses on processing host I/Os.

System resource optimization

The I/O scheduling module is specifically optimized for the

solid-state storage architecture, so the thread switchover

latency and system resource occupation are greatly reduced.

The SSD-dedicated cache algorithm greatly simplifies the

computing, and reduces I/O latency and performance

fluctuation.

Huawei SSDs have a periodical self-check mechanism, so

storage controllers do not need to frequently check the SSDs,

and the CPU and memory consumption is obviously reduced.

Technological principles:

The CPU and memory resources are no longer wasted in

processing non-I/O applications, and the system can devote

more to process I/O applications. Therefore, the system I/O

processing capability is improved, I/O latency is reduced, and

overall performance is optimized.

Dynamic wear leveling takes the initiative to

number of P/E cycles and then writes data

P/E cycles, and migrates data from the

With the UltraPath, the operating system detects only

one image of each actual disk.

If the UltraPath is not installed, a host can access

LUNs on the disk array through multiple paths. This

causes a LUN to be mapped several times (equal to

the path quantity) to the host operating system.

Therefore, the host detects several identical physical

LUNs while only one LUN is mapped.

After the UltraPath is installed, a virtual HBA exists

between the disk drive and the two physical HBAs so

that only one virtual disk is visible and mapped to the

host.

Challenges

With the development of services, the original system cannot meet the customer's requirements

on high concurrency and low latency nor enable background data to be computed, analyzed,

and reported in a time period required by the customer. (The daily output management report

and assessment report respectively require 8 hours and 46 hours to be completed. Therefore,

IT engineers must complete the assessment report on weekends.) Two reconstruction solutions

are required: database software reconstruction and IT infrastructure reconstruction.

Solution

1. Replace Hitachi AMS2300 with two Dorado2100 G2 to connect to the Falcon R710 for high-

speed access, local mirroring, and remote asynchronous replication.

2. Use the SafeCache and HotZone functions of the Falcon R710 to ensure the high reliability

and performance of the primary storage' database services while accelerating the cache

hotspot data access for the Exchange and web server.

3. Retain one Hitachi device to store data of non-critical services that pose low requirements on

storage performance.
