QMD Corner

ZOOM is a widely used conference platform, now accepted and adopted by many schools and universities to conduct classes online in situations where face to face classes are not possible or preferred. QMD provides Zoom Video Tutorials for our teachers. Workshop will be arranged before the first lesson. We do provide IT support and lesson reviews to ensure our teachers do have a pleasant online teaching moment with the students.

Hong Kong education system is under siege first due to the social movement began in June 2019 and now the coronavirus. It is a dark time in Hong Kong. But our students still need to learn.

Headstart Group has been providing online classes to our schools and students via online platform ZOOM. If you are keen to help, we would like to hear from you and create a schedule that will best suit you. Please contact TRA to expedite commencement of your online teaching.

I: How long have you been teaching and what are the ages of your students?

T: I've been teaching for about 4 years now, both privately and in classroom setting. Over the span of 4 years, I worked with students of all grades, from K3 - S6.

I: Are you current working full-time or part-time?

T: I'm currently a part-time NET.

I: I know you are the trainer in our new business model - Online Teaching. Please share with us some techniques and skills.

T: The key to successful online teaching is to keep things simple initially. Avoid planning complex activities or tasks as the students are unfamiliar with the software and it's a new experience for both the teacher the students. So, keep things simple for the first few lessons. Once the students get hold of the software, the sky is the limit as far as creativity and interaction over ZOOM is concerned.

I: What advice would you give to a teacher who is not sure how to adjust to online teaching from face-to-face teaching?

T: I would say try to play around with the software first. Familiarize yourself with the layout of the software and be confident what you and the students can do through the software. The rest will come with experience. For lesson planning, try to stick with basic tools such as Word or PowerPoint files to deliver the language content.
