Absence Reporting • Absences must be reported via the absence line

(01484 355105) before 9.30am. • Students who are going to be late should also ring

this line and sign in at the Student Guidance Centre when they arrive at college.

• Leave of absence requests should be made in

writing to the Student Support and Guidance Co-ordinator.

• Please note: holidays in term time will require a written request to the Principal, and if approved will be counted as an explained absence which will impact negatively on attendance.

Like for Like: 4.5 hours in lesson/4.5 hours associated study in own time.

Much of this associated study can be done in college , there are lots of places available for such associated study: Library, Guidance Centre, Tutorial and IT area, Study Centre, bespoke subject hubs

Progress Tutors

Each student has their own progress tutor.

Role of the Progress Tutor • Monitor welfare and development,

academic and personal • Work with the student and their teachers

to ensure they achieve or exceed their minimum target grades

• Contact home to discuss with parents or guardians, if concerns arise

• Write references for university and employment

• First port of call for your parental concerns

The Honours Programme • We are keen to support and challenge our most able

students to progress to the most competitive universities and the most competitive degree courses such as medicine , veterinary science, optometry, law etc.

• This programme aims to provide bespoke support and

challenge to ensure our most able students achieve a minimum AAA or equivalent at A level

• This programme includes :

Subject specific support UCAS support University visits Specialist careers advice Subject activities and competitions Enrichment activities e.g., journalism, HE plus programme

Work Experience/Work placements

• A vital addition to a competitive profile!

• Students on a Level 3 Extended Diploma programme will have access to this as a mandatory part of their course

• Other students may organise it to need through the Work Experience Admin Manager

The Careers and Employability Team

• A dedicated and specialist careers team is available to support students with progression advice throughout the year.

Personal Conduct • A large and diverse Sixth Form College –

important we all behave with respect towards each other.

• We seek your support in encouraging your son/daughter to behave respectfully and responsibly at all times around college and when using public transport, when leaving college during the day to use local shops etc.

• They are ambassadors for HNC.

Membership cards

• Students are expected to wear their memberships card at all times and in all areas

• This promotes the safety of our students

• It is hoped that they are proud to be members of an outstanding college

New Drivers

• Students who bring their own vehicles on to college premises must register with student services

• Please encourage your son or daughter to bring in appropriate paperwork and apply for a parking permit. This is for their own safety and the safety of others

Parent Voice • We always welcome your views on our work

and there is a ‘Your Views’ section (under ‘About Us’) on our website where you can offer us constructive feedback on all aspects of college life. We also ask you to complete an on-line ‘Friends and Family Test’ once a year.
