ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS Adult vocational education classes are open to all persons ages 18+, who can profit from training, are capable of performing the course work, meet prerequisite requirements and can pay the applicable fees. Students applying for state licensing programs, which have a completion of high school requirement, must provide a copy of high school diploma or high school equivalency diploma at registration.

TUITION & FEESAll courses are tuition-based. Each course has the required fee list-ed with the course description in the catalog. Fees include tuition, a non-refundable $15 registration fee and where noted, textbooks and supplies. All fees must be paid in full at time of registration by credit card or money order only made payable to HCST.

REFUND POLICYPrior to and after the first scheduled class meeting, you may request a tuition refund in accordace with the HCST Board of Education Policy. There will be no refunds after the first night of class. (A $15 registration fee will be deducted from refunds). Students must notify the Adult Education Office at 201-662-6791 to initiate the re-fund process. Check refunds will take 6-8 weeks to process. We are not responsible for snow days; however, cancelled classes will be rescheduled.

COURSE CANCELLATIONCourses may be cancelled by HCST or merged, if enrollment does not permit economical operation. Registered students, who cannot be accomodated, may elect to transfer to another course, receive credit for a future course, or receive a full refund (including the $15 registration fee).

TEXTBOOKSWhen a textbook is required for a class, students must purchase them on their own. Information can be located on our website www.hcstonline.org/hudsontechnical. Students must have the textbook for the first night of class.

SUPPLIES/PERSONAL SAFETY EQUIPMENTSupplies used for personal projects are the responsibility of the stu-dent. Items such as auto body paint, lumber, motor oil, and sandpa-per are examples of personal supplies. All items used, as required training exercises, are supplied by the school. Personal safety equipment such as safety glasses and goggles must be used and are not included in the tuition fee. No one will be allowed to partici-pate in the training instruction without required safety items.

AWARDING CERTIFICATESStudents must attend a minimum of 85% of all school class hours and meet the course requirements, in order to receive the recom-mendation of the Adult Education Principal. To be eligible for a Certificate of Completion. (Licensing, certification, & apprentice programs may require higher attendance rates. See individual requirements. All fees must be paid or certificates will not be issued.)

CLASS SIZE AND SCHEDULESShops and classes are designed so that each student has access to the tools and equipment necessary to aquire the skills taught in the course. All classes and shops are planned with a student-teacher ratio that provides an optimum learning situation. (A minimum of 10 students is required to begin a course). The school reserves the right to cancel any course with insufficient enrollment. Every attempt will be made to maintain the class schedules as printed. In order to ac-comodate the greatest number of students possible, some changes in campus locations or days may be necessary.

CLASS MEETING DATES, TIMES, & LOCATIONClasses begin September 23, 2019 unless otherwise noted. Refer to individual course listing for class meeting dates and times. Students will receive notification by email upon enrollment. Classes may be extended due to inclement weather. No refunds for inclement weather. When school is closed, all related outside school activities and training are also cancelled.

AIR CONDITIONING & REFRIGERATION IThe basic vapor compression system will be taught. The types, principles, and operation of compressors, condensers, sub-cooling, liquid receivers, pump-down, filter dryers, sight glasses, metering devices, evaporators, superheat, and heat transfers will be introduced. This course will also focus on phase changes regarding temperature, refrigerants, manifold gauges, soldering, swaging, flaring, leak detection, evacuation, changing oils, recovery, recycling, and reclaiming.

AIR CONDITIONING & REFRIGERATION IIExplore the types, principles, and operations of voltmeter, ohmmeters, ammeter, singles and three phrase, transformers, thermostats, current relays, contactors, starters, and over-current protection. The study of single element and time-delay fuse, circuit breakers, pressure actuated protection devices, solid state motor compressor protection, motors, capacitors, motor data plates, symbols, and safety practices are stressed. Hands-on electrical troubleshooting is also introduced. Students must have completed and passed part I in order to be eligible for part II.

ELECTRICITY IThis course will introduce the student to the basic hand and power tools used on the job every day as well as tool safety and electrical safety procedures. Series and parallel circuits, circuit calculations, electrical materials such as boxes, wire and cable, panel, and circuit breakers will be handled and identified.

ELECTRICITY IIGain important knowledge of basic residential circuits, hands-on experience with basic wiring and blue print reading and multimeter troubleshooting circuits. Capacitance, inductance, reactance, impedance as well as magnetism, electromagnetism, transformers, and their application to motors and generators will be discussed. The application of The National Electrical Code requirement to everyday installations will be covered. Students must have completed and passed part I in order to be eligible for part II.

ADVANCED ELECTRICITYLevel 2 is a 150-hour course and partially meets the academic requirements of the Electricity Apprenticeship State Requirements. Applicants must complete Level 1 (Electricity I&II) before registering for Level 2. Level 2 is a 10 month program and a pre-requisite for Level 3 scheduled for next year. Level 3 is equivalent to 3rd year of Plumbing Apprenticeship.
