HULL INSPECTION COURSE 8 th to 11 th June 2015 UniKL MIMET, LUMUT This is a four-day programme designed to give exposure to participants on the related standards used by International Association of Class Societies (IACS) members / classification societies worldwide and to provide knowledge on the different types of defects and damages that occur in ships or hull structures. It will be beneficial to those who carry out inspections of hull structures including superintendents, masters, first officers, shipyard personnel and surveyors. OBJECTIVE: Upon completion of this course, participants will able to : Understand safety requirements at the shipyard Define quality in general and recognize its concepts Explain basic elements of quality in shipbuilding Identify various basic hull structural features and its components Recognise various types of materials used for ship hull construction Identify IACS REC 47 shipbuilding quality standard guidelines and require- ments on hull structural and welding preparation and workmanship quality - standard range, acceptance limit, defects and the remedial works based on typical examples Have basic welding and thermal cutting knowledge applicable in shipyard. Expose with WPS, basic joints and symbol. Conduct inspection on the weld joint made based on applicable standards Understand the basics of drawing reading commonly used in the commercial shipbuilding industry. Familiar with the standard used in the commercial shipbuilding industry for hull inspection purposes. This is a four-day programme designed to give exposure to participants on the

About the trainer :

FAUZUDDIN AYOB

The instructor has vast working experiences upon joining Japanese and Western’s multina-tionals manufacturing companies and marine industries over 10 years in each industry as engi-neer, senior engineer, assistant manager and manager of engineering and quality assurance

departments. Highest education is Master of Materi-als Science and Engineering from a Japanese Universi-ty. Have an exposure on various Japanese, Western and local management styles, quality assurance and quality control techniques and quality initiatives such as ISO 9000, QCC, TQM, Six Sigma and SPC practiced in manufacturing and marine industries. Current posi-tion is senior lecturer and teaching subjects on quality management and marine engineering.

About the trainer :

ABU BAKAR ABDULLAH

The instructor has vast work-ing experiences in managing projects especially in marine construction, oil and gas fabri-cation and on shore fabrica-tion of petrochemical related industries locally and over-seas. Attended college in a Technical college in United Kingdom in the year 1975 and attended specialist marine welding course in Japan in 1979. Has a MBA specializing

in Entrepreneurship. Was a mechanical engineering en-trepreneur for almost 18 years and had attended various safety and OSHA training. Presently a lecturer and an active founding member of the university safety and se-curity committee.

About the trainer :

HAMDAN NURUDDIN

The instructor graduated with B.Sc in Naval Archi-tecture & Ocean Engi-neering from Glasgow University, UK in 1983. Immediately after gradu-ation he joined Malaysia Shipyard & Engineering Sdn Bhd (now known as Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering Bhd) at Pasir Gudang Johor as

a technical executive with the Hull Construction Depart-ment of the Production Division. He is presently a Sen-ior Specialist at UniKL MIMET lecturing on ship design, marine system design, shipyard operation, CAD & CASD. He has demonstrated his dedication to continuous edu-cation and skills development. Since joining UniKL he had also performed several training to other companies and institutions like Vale, Malaysia Marine and Heavy Engineering Bhd, Marine Department of Malaysia, Roy-al Malaysian Navy, Omani Navy, National Defense Uni-versity and University Technology Mara. He has attend-ed many professional training courses on various ma-rine and offshore subjects.

About the trainer :

AZMAN ISMAIL

The instructor is a highly motivated and experienced lecturer at UniKL MIMET. He specialized in welding and shipbuilding technology since 2004. He involved in Transfer of Technology Pro-gram for Scorpene Subma-rine Project in 2006 which focusing on onboard data-link. He is a Registered

Welding Inspector and Certified Associated Welding Engineer by Japan Welding Engineering Society (JWES). His highest education level is Master Degree in Marine Technology from UTM and currently us pursuing for PhD with Universiti Teknologi Petronas. His vast experi-enced in this field make him a suitable and valuable trainer to ensure successfulness of this course.
