The program lasts for 5 weeks and at the end of the program a "Celebration of Talents" evening is held to showcase the students' work during their clusters. Humewood Community School is located north of St. Clair Avenue and west of Christie Street at 15 Cherrywood Avenue. The original school building was erected in 1914, but it was replaced in 1972. Through our school theme, 'Building our Community', we continue to develop partnerships with home and the community. The school serves over 480 children who come from diverse cultural backgrounds. Many speak languages other than English or French. Humewood Community School opens at 7:30 a.m. and has a Day Care and a Before/After Care Program. The school is permitted for activities that serve both the adults and children in the community. Within the main library is a networked computer lab that is available for students and teachers. The Arts Humewood Community School offers a variety of Arts-based programming. The following are available: Orff (for primary students) Strings - Grade 6 to 8 Guitar Club Primary and Junior/Intermediate Choirs Drumming Workshops Chess Club Drama Club School Play Jewellery Making Club After 4 Programs - Art Attack, Busy Bodies, Music, and Dance Enrichment Programs - Raging Asian Women Taiko Drummers, IBM Anti-Bullying Workshops

Co-Curricular"The Home of the Huskies".  Humewood  has a very active co-curricular program.  The school offersthe following: Basketball Team (Girls and Boys)Cross Country TeamIce Hockey (Co-ed)Softball (Co-ed)Track and Field TeamVolleyball Team (Girls and Boys) Native Languages ProgramStudents in Kindergarten to Grade 8 have the option of enrolling in our Native Language program.The curriculum includes the study of culture, traditions, history, worldviews, and the Ojibwelanguage.

Eco-SchoolHumewood is currently a Platinum certified Eco-school.  Many new initiatives and activities areplanned for student and community involvement with the goal of earning gold status and beyond. We intend to let our diligent recycling program, school garden initiative, and classroom curricularprogramming help us achieve this goal!
