Cowology and Christianity Aubrey Johnson

I n Chick-fil-A territo-ry, we all know the value of cows in

marketing, but did you know cows played an important role in the history of healthcare. The word “vaccination” comes from the Latin root vaccinus, meaning of or from the cow.

Vaccines are a biologi-cal preparation for battling disease through acquired immunity. Thanks to the vaccine, the body can recognize foreign agents as threats and stimulate the immune system to destroy them. The body also keeps a record of threats so it is prepared for subsequent encoun-ters. The World Health Organization reports that licensed vaccines

are currently available to prevent or control twen-ty-five infections.

The body of Christ must also battle infectious diseases that can cause it harm. In today’s ser-mon, we are going to discuss how we can im-munize our congregation to counter the toxic effects of gossip in its various forms. The Word of God can build up our defenses to eradicate hurtful words that can divide or destroy the church. Roll up your sleeve and get ready for some good medicine for your soul.

An Attitude of Service Lew Foshee

Which Way Do I Go? Todd Wilson

“I will not have to go to this class…. I don’t have

to attend church, if I choose not to….. Will I take

this job or that one?”

Many of our youth will be attending high school and col-

lege graduations. They are moving

on to another stage of life and will

have to make choices they have

never had to make before. They

will be heading off to colleges in

different cities and jobs away from

family. It is a very exciting time in

their lives. What choices will they

make? They are at a crossroad in

their lives. Which way will they go?

When I graduated High School one of my first thoughts

was that I don’t ever have to get up on Sunday morning

and go to church. I didn’t grow up in the church and felt

no real connection. When I came home I was introduced

to the Church of Christ and felt a real connection that has

kept me here ever since. I have never regretted that life-

long decision.

As we grow and mature, each stage of life brings us to a

crossroad and we have to decide which way to go. If we

have had parents or special friends who have given us

the blessing of knowing God, that choice should be an

easy one. Keep God at the fore-front of all you do and

those hard choices in life will be much easier to make.

The Lord will gage your decision-

making process.

Jeremiah 29:11, For I know the

plans I have for you, declares

the Lord, plans to prosper you

and not to harm you, plans to give

you hope and a future.”

God knows what is best for you

and He will direct your ways. He will always be with you,

even when no one else is. Remember what you have

been taught and try to make the best decisions, with God

in mind. We are not perfect and we all make bad choic-

es in our lives, but knowing the Lord is with us and has a

plan for us will make all the difference.

Congratulations to all our graduates! May you go with

the Lord and enjoy what awaits you! YOU know which

way to go!

T o really be of good service in the Kingdom of

God, we must develop an attitude of service.

That attitude is a reflection of our heart. Do we

have the heart of a servant? The

greatest example we have of a serv-

ant’s heart is that of Jesus. Although

His entire life was one of service, our

most notable example is the washing

of His disciples' feet (Jn. 13:1-17). This

lowly, mundane act reveals the heart

of Jesus and sets an example for us. It

was not in spite of His greatness but

because of His greatness that Jesus served His disciples

that night. Through His own attitude toward servant-

hood, He taught us that true greatness in the Kingdom of

God consists not in position or authority but in serving

one another. Paul tells us in Philippians 2:7 that Jesus

took "the very nature of a servant," and Jesus, referring

to Himself, stated that "the Son of Man did not come to

be served, but to serve," (Mt. 20:28). So, how can we

develop the heart of a servant and take on an attitude of

service? We start by sharing ourselves (our time, our tal-

ents, and our energies) with our broth-

ers and sisters in Christ. We look to

others’ needs and we meet those

needs, whether they are physical or

spiritual. As servants in Christ, we find

our niche in the Church where we can

be most useful and we do the Lord’s

work with gladness of heart. Serving

others doesn’t require any special tal-

ent or ability; but, it does take a servant attitude to want

to serve others and an observant eye to see what needs

to be done. There are innumerable opportunities within

our congregation to serve and to be an example. Let’s all

make a relentless commitment to becoming involved in

the work of the church. Determine what your talents are,

and use those to glorify God and lift up His Kingdom.

God Will Show You Which Way

to Go
