iCamps are day-long events dedicated to creating prototypes around social issues.

The groups brainstormed possible solutions to issues that affect children, such as

poor education, migration difficulties, child abuse, abandonment, and parents behaviors.

Out of nine potential focuses for the day, three were voted on for further brainstorming and prototyping:

Migration of Family, Promoting Parent’s Skills, and Making Communities Safer for Children.

As groups considered the prototypes, they considered the impact on children and their families, as well as

planned how various groups and members can get involved, such as NGOs, Government, and larger

communities.

Before landing on potential solutions, the members of the groups test their prototypes by exchanging ideas

and filling out visual aids of the challenges faced. The diagram above displays possible issues of migrant

families.

As part of the plan to make communities safer for children, the groups created a front-facing community

project to get individuals involved in free first-aid training. The plan is to train community leaders, and give

outstanding role-model communities the chance to share safety training with other nearby communities.

At the end of the day, relationships are formed, and potential partnerships are beginning.

The SPIDER iCamp event is just one example of how the iLab Southeast Asia is

connecting subject matter experts, designers, and programmers on a local level.
