To the Graduation Class:
I am pleased to celebrate your achievement as the second graduating class of our joint program in Hong Kong. W e 3 1"e pmud to welcome you into the world community of mOI-e than 40,000 Kellogg alumni. You can be pl"Oud. as well, that you have continued to make t he alliance between HKUST Graduate School of Busines s and the Kellogg GI-aduate Schoo l of Managem ent at Nol"thwestem University an overwhelming success,
You join an ever-growing cadre of global management
progl'am alumni. with your peers in Evanston, at the Recanati School in Israel. and at t he Ko blenz Corpora te Graduate School of Management in Germany. You will recall you negotiated with representatives of these classes in Evanston during your live-in week in September.
It has been our experience at Kellogg that the bonds formed in intensive learning
sessions such as the program you have just completed provide a lifetime of contacts
and networks. With the newest technology being employed in all of our Kellogg pmgrams, our students and alumni can be in immediate contact with each other in all corners of the globe. In OUI- intel--re liant world of business, these contacts will
increasingly become mOI'e essential to success.
You and your fam ilies can be proud of your hard work, and your commitment to
learning while maintaining the heavy responsibilities of fami ly and business life. This is a significant accomplishment, and I thank your families for their support.
We hope that the knowledge gained fium this international executive MBA program is already impacting your career and your sponsoring-company's future. You are
certainly deserving o f success and we wish you the best of good fortune.
The success of this program is due to the vision of the faculty and administration of
HKUST. They recognized the potential for such a global program and continue to expertly meet our customer's expectations.
I wou ld like to thank Dean Yuk-Shee Chan and program director Steve DeKrey for
helping to make this a formidable and successfu l partnership.
Professor Yuk-Shee Chan Dean of School of Business and Management The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
To the KHOl EMBA Graduation Class:
I am most delighted to congratulate all of you, on behalf of the Business School. on this joyful occasion of your graduation The last sixteen months that you have gone through could have been t he most hectic and demanding period for you despite the busy schedules that you ar'e accustomed to as corporate executives. We al-e pleased to join in with your fami ly, (i-iends and
corporate sponsors to honor you for your accomplishments!
Though life as an EMBA'er was probably ovelWhelming at times, I wish your experiences at Clear Water Bay
and Evanston would always bring back fond memories. In terms of timing. the Graduating Class of 2000 was rea lly unusual. As a startee you can be assured that there would not be another class of EMBA straddli ng the millennium in another thousand years!
Furthennore, the period o f your study from 1999 to 2000 also witnessed a number of milestones in the Business School's development. You were the first users of the School's new executive education facilities in the University Annex that was completed in the summer of 1999 to bolster the School's capability in this burgeoning area. In another vein, 1999 and 2000 have also brought the School two intel-national achievements. We became one of the first two Asian business schools acuedited by the AACSB ~ The International Association for Management Education in April 1999, and the only school in Asia accorded a place in the world's top 75 business schools by the Financial Times in January 2000.
The advancement and wider application of technology continue to change the landscape of business in the new millennium. The markets have become truly global with e~marketing and e~commerce. New concepts such as price-revenue ratio and optimal brick~and-click planning are indeed thought provoking and undoubtedly challenging for corporate executives like you. With the knowledge and insight that you have gained through the participation in this program, I am confident that you will be even more adept at making the most of the opportunities that await you ahead.
I would like to wish all of you great success in your future endeavors. We look forward to seeing you often, having your advice and support as alumni , and working with you!

To Kellogg-HKUST Class Two:
This is a very proud day for all of us. A day which has come much faster than we had ever imagined. When you ~rst sta t"ted attending OU I" EMBA pl'Ogram in January of 1999, the notion of being EMBA alumni was a distant dream indeed. Here we are. Here you are, our second EMBA graduates. Your dream has materialized.
It is exciting to be part of a start up. just look at the stock m<1rkets. Wh ile per'haps less risky than a dot com that is what we have been about these past few years.Togethel~ our University under President Woo's
leadership. the School of Business and Management under Dean Chan's leadership, the Kellogg school under the Dean of Deans Don Jacobs, your companies and families! Evel-yone in this room today shares in our creation, your tliumph. Congratulations to all of you.
From the appl icant interviews to yOUI" final class sessions with our distinguished speakers, KH02 has remained special. You won 't deny the challenges and you wi ll never say it was easy. but here you are. You did it!
Being our second has put extra pressure on you as a class. You have set high standards and you have all taken extra pride in working with us to be the best you can be. I have enjoyed being with you these past months and I look fOlWard to connecting to you as Kellogg and HKUST alums.
Wherevel" you go, know that you have gained two new homes today. One is here in Clear Water Bay and the other is in Evanston. Ill inois. You are among a very select group of EMBA students in the world who can make that claim. Be proud of your program. It will be part of you forever.

You have accompl ished a great deal. You can now place yOUI" books on yOU I"
bookshelves - but keep them near - you will draw on the knowledge you have
gained for many years to come.
