Native American History Month | Rural Health Month Center for Diversity & Inclusion and Native American Employee Resource Group I Have a Reservation OHSU’s Native American Employee Resource Group (ERG) and the Center for Diversity & Inclusion invite the community to a cultural competency lecture by Stephen “Miles” Rudd, M.D., F.A.A.F.P., Chief Medical Officer for Portland Area IHS which includes Indian Health Service operated clinics in Oregon, Washington, and Idaho. Dr. Rudd will discuss diverse cultural beliefs & perspectives, commu- nication styles, and patient-centered care when working with people from various Indian nations which are located in primarily in rural, geographically isolated areas. The Native American ERG is a resource throughout OHSU and to community members interested in Native American culture, issues, and health. The Native American ERG provides educational outreach, spread awareness, and promote thoughtful discussion between its members and allies. Captain Rudd began service with IHS in 1994 at the Warm Springs Health & Wellness Center on the Warm Springs Indian Reservation in central Oregon. During his service to the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs, he provided a full-spectrum of outpatient primary care, inpatient medicine, obstetrics, and was actively engaged in teaching medical, physician assistant, nurse practitioner students and pharmacy residents. Dr. Rudd is the Chair of the IHS National Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee overseeing and managing the IHS National Core Formulary and in- creasing the value, quality, and access to medical care and pharmacotherapy for the agency.
