I I Brief description

The winding calculator 1012 includes a calculating and a controlling system

for determination and storage of the winding diameter and to control the torque

of the winding shaft at variable line speeds. It has been designed to operate

together with d. c. controllers and shunt-wound motors.

The winding calculator 1012 operates on the priciple of indirect tension control.

The tension of the web is determined from the torque of the winding drive and

from the winding diameter. Therefore in order to control the web tension, the

actual winding diameter must be known and the torque of the winding drive

adjustable at all times whilst winding. The actual winding diameter is deter-

mined by the winding calculator. A mechanical or opto-electronic sensing of

of the diameter is not necessary. The torque of the winding drive is determined

from this calculated diameter signal and supplied to the d.c. controller as

a current set-value.

The winding calculator enables various winding characteristics to be set.

Continual adjustment from winding with constant tension to winding with con-

stant torque can be chosen. It is also possible to wind with atensionreduction

as the diameter increases.

Output signals can be taken from the winding calculator, which reports web-

break, standstill or end-position. An additional freely switchabll motor

potentiometer, the output of which gives the actual diameter, is also

available.

is derived from the equations 1, 2 and 3.

Therefore the adjustment distance of the motorized potentiometer is a de-

riving value for the diameter.

The tachogenerators must produce d.c. voltage. Tine maximum tacho volt-

age must not exceed 180 V=.

The maximum windlng tacho voltage should be al least q x 10 v=.

It is supplied to the CakUtator vla the terminals 7 (+) and 8 (-).

The maximum web tacho voltage must be more than IO V. It is supplied to the calculator via the terminals 9 ( + > and 8 ( - > and adapted with the

A freely usable potential free potentiometer, whose adjustment distance ( a > corresponds to the diameter, is available at the terminals 29, 30 and 31. It can, for instance, be used for the display of the winding diameter . The potentiometer can be loaded with a maximum of 3 watts.

R=5K \in/3W

Additionally, a voltage 0.. . + 10 V, which is proportional to the winding diameter, is available at terminal 36, d,,, “= + 10 V=. kis voltage can be

loaded with 5 mA.

2. Standstill sensing with calculator inhibit

When the winding machine is at a standstill, the reel diameter can no longer

be sensed by the calculator; because the tacho voltages of the web and of

the winder are needed for this. The standstill logic switches the calculator,

inhibit, when Vmax is reached. The momentary diameter remains stored , 30

which insures, that the controller output does n.ot drift. *.. . .- .- The web is kept taut even at stands ti I I. WhenThe standstill logic is

activated, terminal 37 registers approx. + 12 V =. This transistor output can

be loaded with 20 mA. It can, for instance, be used for eventual standstill

tension reduction.

.I The calculator inhibit can also be switched externally. By bridging the termina

18 with terminal 13 ( GND > , the momentary diameter remains stored. ‘If the

calculator is inhibited, the LED “RSP” V 803 lights up.

When the winding process has finished, and before starting the next winding

process, the motorized potentiometer of the diameter calculator must be

brought into its starting position.

When winding, this is done by bridging terminal. 12 with terminal 13 ( GND > .

When unwinding, reset is made by bridging terminal 14 with terminal 73 ( GND ). 3earb. 3!X4Wl4 St/St 79-6- 12 Zoidmungs-Nr. Drawing-No.

When the starting posi!lon has been reached, the motorlzed potentiometer remalns in

this positlon. Before the start of the nextwinding process, a starting slgnal must be made

after the web has been attached to the winding tube in order to release the calculator

inhibit, which was automatically switched by reset. If the start signal is given before

the web has been layed-onto the winding tube, it can lead to a web-break report. When

winding with a winding turnover turret, the return slgnal for the cutting knife can be

used as the starting signal.

The starting signal Is made by bridging terminal 19 with terminal 13 (GND). Either maintained

or fleeting signals can be used.

4. End limit position control

If the motorized potentiometer reaches a start’or end limit position dmin

( empty tube > or dma, ( full reel ) , then the end I imit position control

reacts.

It switches calculator inhibit and in so doing, prevents motorized potentio-

meter from running against its mechanical stops. A preset .

reset process is ended when the end I imi t position is reached.

The maximum switching voltage of the relays is 220 V. The continuous

current iimit must not exceed 0.1 A. The switching power for 24 V d.c.

is 0.1 A. The relay contacts can switch inductive loads of approx. IO VA

ho1 ding power, if the power coi Is are bypassed with RC-absorber components ( e.g. Kfockner-Moeller-auxiliary contactor DIL 00 with absorber component

Fig. 9: End position report

In order to adjust the end position, the largest reel diameter to be wound dmax must be known. This largest reel1 diameter is then equivalent to + 10 V= on

the winding calculator. ke diameter of the empty winding tube must also be

known.

The dmin trimmer is adjusted, so that the voltage + IO v.

is registered at terminai 36. ( for an exact description of the adjust$ent procedure see adjust-

d min must be on terminal 20 for the whole winding process and before ope-

rating reset. It must be noted when requesting end position dmin, that the mototized potentiometer can only be adjusted to smaller diameters.

me terminal 21 is available, if different maximum reel diameters are to be wound. The resistance R 111 (on soldering supporting points) has to be removed on this occasion. The largest reel diameter is equivalent to 1-10 V. For smaller reels, the voltage at termina- 1 21 must be reduced proportionally to the smaller diametey. It must be noted when requesting end position dmax, that the motorized potentiometer can only be adjusted to larger diameters.

Example : Two different reel diameters are to be wound dmaxl = 1000 mm,

1000 mm is the largest reel diameter, therefore + 10 V at terminal 21 is equivalent to 1000 mm

For the web-break surveillance function, It is necessary for the wlnding calculator to

be informed whether the process is wlnding or unwinding.

When winding, terminal 15 must be linked with termlna! 17 (-Vcc),

when unwinding terminal 15 must be iinked with terT.inal 16 (+Vcc).

The response time of the web-break survei I lance depends on the web speed

and on the momentary reel, diameter, and is a maxi mum of several mi I I i -

seconds. Web-break is reported by the LED “BR” V 804 and a relay contact at terminals 5 and 6. When the web-break survei I lance is activated, the re-

1 ay contact opens. This can be used to switch off the winding machine.

Fig. 13: Web-break report

The maximum switching voltage of the relays is 220 V. The continuous current

limit must not exceed 0.1 A. The switching power for 24 V d.c. is 0.1 A. The relay contacts can switch inductive loads of approx. 10 VA holding power,

if the power coils are bypassedwith R-C. absorber components ( e.g. Kloeckner-Moe!ler-auxiliary contactot DIL 00 with absorber component RC 00 ).

With d.c. loads the coil must bebypassed.with a free-running diode ( e.g.

diode 1 N ‘4004 > -

When activated, the web-break survei I lance prevents the motorized potentio-

meter from adjusting. Thedi‘ameterat the time of web-break remains stored .._ in the winding calculator. When the web is attached to the winding reel

again, the web-break surveillance must be released. For this a normally closed

contact must be connected between terminals IO ( +ub > and Il.

Fig. 14: Web-break release +Ub

If the web tacho is mechanically coupled with the speed determining drive

when winding ( fig. 15 ) , a fast response of the web-break survei I lance is

not guaranteed. Here the response time depends on the acceleration rate

(because of the reducing web tension ) of the winding drive. When the web

tacho is placed according to fig. 1 a fast surveillance function is given.

The torque compensation adds or subtracts the torque influences which could cause a falsification of the tension. (le. losses)

The static and the dynamic friction are compensated. The preceding signs of these torques are switched according to whether winding or unwinding..

7. Tension determination

The tension determination forms the current set-value for the d-c. controller

of the shunt-wound motor, from the diameter signal of the diameter calculator.

The optimal winding characteristic depends primarily on the material to

be wound and can therefore vary considerably. The winding characteristic

can be adjusted on the H-W trimmer.

If several different materials are to be wound, an external adjustment of the

winding characteristic is possible. To achieve this, the resistor R 214

( on soldering points > must be removed, and an external adjusting potentio-

meter must be connected to terminals 23 ( hard ) , 24 ( soft > and 22
