From the Pastor’s Desk

Dear Friends,

What comes to your mind when you think of the word - WORLD? Do you

instantly see a globe? Do you think of a map on a wall and realize how very

little of the world you have personally seen? Do you start thinking and

dreaming of all the places you would like to go? Do you instantly focus on

North America, the United States, Kentucky and Warren County and quietly whisper how glad you

are that this is your little corner of the world?

I want to say that I think all of those responses are good. We need to be reminded that we are all

fellow citizens on this huge ball that is suspended in space supporting life for billions of humans

and innumerable other forms of life. And yet, when viewed in universal perspective we suddenly

realize how very miniscule our planet is compared to other planets, much less to the sun, much less

to our solar system, much less to the galaxy, much less to the universe.

We need to be reminded that even our little world is a wonderful place to live and is inviting us to

explore and experience way beyond what we have up to this point. Even the most intrepid and

adventurous among us has only scratched the surface of possible places to go and sights to see. I

love to travel. My bucket list of places to go and see seems to get longer every year. I am resolved

to the fact my bucket list won’t get satisfied before I die, but I also hope to check off as many of

those places as I can. Maybe some day we can sit around and compare lists!

I also think it is very important for me to stay focused on the reality that I do have a specific place

to live on this great big planet. I do have the opportunity to be part of the world that is immediately

around me. I am part of a particular community with unique possibilities and problems. I can make

a difference in my community right here and right now.

This Sunday, October 2, is World Communion Sunday. Where will you be? Well, you will be on a

planet hurdling through space. You will be part of a community that ranges in size all the way from

7.1 billion down to the size of your household. I invite you to be part of the community known as

Christ Church as we host fellow Christians from Bolivia, South America, to our part of the world.

Come enjoy the ministry and fellowship of the Bolivia Evangelical University Band as they share

with us in a united service. Note the time changes - 9:30 Sunday School – 10:30 Worship Service

in our Family Life Center. Let’s celebrate being the Body of Christ as the world comes to our

church this Sunday.

Message from Pastor Michael

It is our great honor to be partnering with the WKU

Wesley this year to sponsor and work the Foundry’s

Trunk-or-Treat. This is an opportunity to provide a

safe place for the children of the West Side community

to come this Halloween. With such a great opportunity

to serve children I know most of you will want to help

but we only have limited space available to set up

tables, so move fast and sign-up today!

The Trunk-or-Treat will be at the Foundry (531 W.

11th Avenue, Bowling Green, KY 42101) on October

28th from 5:00-6:30 pm and we need the following

volunteers

1. 10-15 Table Hosts - decorate a table, interact with

children and give out candy

2. Refreshments - we need drinks, cookies and popcorn

(to be made in the popcorn maker we donated to the

Foundry) for 200 children

3. 2-3 Popcorn Makers - use the popcorn maker and

give out popcorn

4. 5-10 Clean-up Volunteers - come after the event and

help clean things up and put them back in order for the

Foundry

5. We are asking everyone to bring a bag of candy to

the church. Drop off in the church office.

Signup sheet is available in the Connection Area.

Christmas Play Practice Schedule:

WD2 will not be meeting on Wednesday,

October 5th, due to Fall Break. When WD2

resumes on Wednesday, October 12th, the

normally scheduled activities for children will be

replaced by Christmas Play Practices. Jeana Withers

will again be heading up this annual event. Our

children will be performing their Christmas Play on

Sunday, December 4th. Please make every effort to

have your child/children be a part of one of our

Christmas traditions!

Back to the Beach (VBS Reprise) has been

scheduled. Please join us as we hold our 2nd year of

hosting a winter break mini VBS. On Tuesday,

December 27th and Wednesday, December 28th we

will go back to the beach and enjoy, once again,

some of our favorite music, songs and crafts from

this past summer’s SURF SHACK VBS. The

program will run for 2 days from 9:30 a.m. until

12:00 noon. Please let Patty know how you can

help!

Our annual Advent/Christmas Workshop for

children ages 3 year through 2nd grade has been

scheduled for Friday, November 18th. We will meet

from 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm. We will learn about the

Christian traditions of the season, read Christmas

stories and craft some Christmas treasures! Pizza

will be served. Parents are welcome, but not

required, to stay.

ROCK (Reaching Out to Christ’s Kids) is our

Sunday program for children ages 3 years through

2nd grade. We meet each week during the 11:00

a.m. worship service. A typical Sunday includes

singing, a Bible story, a puppet skit, a snack and a

craft.

Christ Church’s Nursery provides a safe and

loving place to grow. The nursery is available

during both worship services on Sunday morning

and during the Sunday School hour for the benefit

of children under the age of 3. On Wednesday

evenings, the nursery is open for the children of

parents who are participating in WD2 classes. If

you have questions, please see Patty Wintuska,

April Taylor or Angie Gordon.

A special thanks for your

generous giving.

We received $570 on Camp Sunday

that we forwarded to CAMP LOUCON.

We received $1,000 for

THE FOUNDRY that will go toward

scholarships for students.

We raised $650 for the Down Syndrome

Buddy Walk for Team Addie Ray

Sunday, October 2, which is also World Communion

Sunday, we will host a musical ensemble from the

Bolivia Evangelical University, a group of 13 band

musicians. They will be sharing in music and testimony

in a 10:30 United Service. Come anticipating a wonder-

fully different worship experience as we celebrate with

these fellow Christians from Bolivia.

Also, if you have an old musical instrument just

gathering dust somewhere, this group would love to

take that instrument off of your hands and put it to good

use in Bolivia as part of the music department there.
