OPENING ACCLAMATION The people standing, the presider says Blessed be God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. And blessed be his kingdom, now and for ever. Amen.

Gloria S-280 Robert PowellGlory to God in the highest, and peace to his people on earth. Lord God, heavenly King, almighty God and Father, we worship you, we give you thanks, we praise you for your glory. Lord Jesus Christ, only Son of the Father, Lord God, Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world: have mercy on us; you are seated at the right hand of the Father: receive our prayer. For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen.

THE COLLECT OF THE DAYThe Lord be with you. And also with you. Let us pray. O God, the strength of all who put their trust in you: Mercifully

accept our prayers; and because in our weakness we can do nothing good without you, give us the help of your grace, that in keeping your commandments we may please you both in will and deed; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

FIRST LESSON: 2 Kings 5:1-14

Naaman, commander of the army of the king of Aram, was a great man and in high favor with his master, because by him the LORD had given victory to Aram. The man, though a mighty warrior, suffered from leprosy. Now the Arameans on one of their raids had taken a young girl captive from the land of Israel, and she served Naaman's wife. She said to her mistress, "If only my lord were with the prophet who is in Samaria! He would cure him of his leprosy." So Naaman went in and told his lord just what the girl from the land of Israel had said. And the king of Aram said, "Go then, and I will send along a letter to the king of Israel. He went, taking with him ten talents of silver, six thousand shekels of gold, and ten sets of garments. He brought the letter to the king of Israel, which read, "When this letter reaches you, know that I have sent to you my servant Naaman, that you may cure him of his leprosy." When the king of Israel read the letter, he tore his clothes and said, "Am I God, to give death or life, that this man sends word to me to cure a man of his leprosy? Just look and see how he is trying to pick a quarrel with me." But when Elisha the man of God heard that the king

Page 3: I. Prelude from Sketches for Organ Wilbur Heldstorage.cloversites.com/calvaryepiscopalchurch/documents/Feb 12 a… · that you say nothing to anyone; but go, show yourself to the

of Israel had torn his clothes, he sent a message to the king, "Why have you torn your clothes? Let him come to me, that he may learn that there is a prophet in Israel." So Naaman came with his horses and chariots, and halted at the entrance of Elisha's house. Elisha sent a messenger to him, saying, "Go, wash in the Jordan seven times, and your flesh shall be restored and you shall be clean." But Naaman became angry and went away, saying, "I thought that for me he would surely come out, and stand and call on the name of the LORD his God, and would wave his hand over the spot, and cure the leprosy! Are not Abana and Pharpar, the rivers of Damascus, better than all the waters of Israel? Could I not wash in them, and be clean?" He turned and went away in a rage. But his servants approached and said to him, "Father, if the prophet had commanded you to do something difficult, would you not have done it? How much more, when all he said to you was, `Wash, and be clean'?" So he went down and immersed himself seven times in the Jordan, according to the word of the man of God; his flesh was restored like the flesh of a young boy, and he was clean. The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

SECOND LESSON: 1 Corinthians 9:24-27

Do you not know that in a race the runners all compete, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win it. Athletes exercise self-control in all things; they do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable one. So I do not run aimlessly, nor do I box as though beating the air; but I punish my body and enslave it, so that after proclaiming to others I myself should not be disqualified. The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God

The Holy Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ according to Mark 1: 40-45

Glory to you, Lord Christ. A leper came to Jesus begging him, and kneeling he said to him, "If you choose, you can make me clean." Moved with pity, Jesus stretched out his hand and touched him, and said to him, "I do choose. Be made clean!" Immediately the leprosy left him, and he was made clean. After sternly warning him he sent him away at once, saying to him, "See that you say nothing to anyone; but go, show yourself to the priest, and offer for your cleansing what Moses commanded, as a testimony to them." But he went out and began to proclaim it freely, and to spread the word, so that Jesus could no longer go into a town openly, but stayed out in the country; and people came to him from every quarte The Gospel of the Lord. Praise to you, Lord Christ.

All stand for THE NICENE CREEDWe believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen. We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father. Through him all things were made. For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven: by the power of the Holy Spirit he became incarnate from the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried. On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end. We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son. With the Father and the Son he is worshiped and glorified. He has spoken through the Prophets. We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

PRAYERS OF THE PEOPLEA minister bids the intercessions Let us pray for all peoples in the church and the world who need mercy, justice, and peace. The Intercessor continuesFor the Church throughout the world and all who witness to the glory of God: for Katharine, our Presiding Bishop; For William, our Bishop and especially for this congregation here gathered, we pray to the Lord: Lord, have mercy. For this world and for the sharing of health and healing. Lord, have mercy.

For those stigmatized as unclean, and for those who touch and heal them. Lord, have mercy.

For all who practice the medical arts, and for physicians of the spirit. Lord, have mercy. For our deliverance from all affliction, strife, and need and for those for whom we pray, silently or aloud…

The Presider concludesGod, who sends us to wash in the river of healing, hear the prayers we offer you this day and enable us to proclaim your good news and spread the word of your salvation; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

THE HOLY COMMUNIONTHE OFFERTORY “Like as the heart desireth the waterbrooks’ Healey Willan

Like as the hart desireth the waterbrooks, so longeth my soul after Thee, O God. My soul is athirst for God, yea, even for the living God. When shall I come to appear before the presence of God? Like as the hart desireth the waterbrooks, so longeth my soul after Thee, O God, after Thee, O God. HYMN 545 “Lo! What a Cloud of Witnesses” (VS. 1-2) St. Fulbert THE GREAT THANKSGIVING

Presider The Lord be with you.People And also with you.Presider Lift up your hearts.People We lift them to the Lord.Presider Let us give thanks to the Lord our God.People It is right to give our thanks and praise.

The Presider continuesIt is right, and a good and joyful thing, always and everywhere to give thanks to you, Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. Because in the mystery of the Word made flesh, you have caused a new light to shine in our hearts, to give the knowledge of your glory in the face of your Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Therefore, we praise you, joining with Angels and Archangels and with all the company of heaven, who forever sing this hymn to proclaim the glory of your Name:

THE SANCTUS S-125 Richard Proulx

Holy, holy, holy Lord, God of power and might, heaven and earth are full of your glory. Hosanna in the highest. Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord. Hosanna in the highest.

We give thanks to you, O God, for the goodness and love which you have made known to us in creation; in the calling of Israel to be your people; in your Word spoken through the prophets; and above all in the Word made flesh, Jesus, your Son. For in these last days you sent him to be incarnate from the Virgin Mary, to be the Savior and Redeemer of the world. In him, you have delivered us from evil, and made us worthy to stand before you. In him, you have brought us out of error into truth, out of sin into righteousness, out of death into life.

Page 11: I. Prelude from Sketches for Organ Wilbur Heldstorage.cloversites.com/calvaryepiscopalchurch/documents/Feb 12 a… · that you say nothing to anyone; but go, show yourself to the

On the night before he died for us, our Lord Jesus Christ took bread; and when he had given thanks to you, he broke it, and gave it to his disciples, and said, “Take, eat: This is my Body, which is given for you. Do this for the remembrance of me.” After supper he took the cup of wine; and when he had given thanks, he gave it to them, and said, “Drink this, all of you: This is my Blood of the new Covenant, which is shed for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins. Whenever you drink it, do this for the remembrance of me.” Therefore, according to his command, O Father,

We remember his death,We proclaim his resurrection,We await his coming in glory;

And we offer our sacrifice of praise and thanksgiving to you, O Lord of all; presenting to you, from your creation, this bread and this wine. We pray you, gracious God, to send your Holy Spirit upon these gifts that they may be the Sacrament of the Body of Christ and his Blood of the new Covenant. Unite us to your Son in his sacrifice that we may be acceptable through him, being sanctified by the Holy Spirit. In the fullness of time, put all things in subjection under your Christ, and bring us to that heavenly country where, with all your saints, we may enter the everlasting heritage of your sons and daughters; through Jesus Christ our Lord, the firstborn of all creation, the head of the Church, and the author of our salvation. By him, and with him, and in him, in the unity of the Holy Spirit all honor and glory is yours, Almighty Father, now and for ever. AMEN.

And now as our Savior Christ has taught us, we are bold to say

THE LORD’S PRAYER

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.

After the Presider breaks the bread, a period of silence is kept.

All singFRACTION ANTHEM S-164 Schubert Jesus, Lamb of God: have mercy on us. Jesus, bearer of our sins: have mercy on us. Jesus, redeemer, redeemer of the world: give us your peace, give us your peace.

The ministers invite the people to Communion, sayingThe gifts of God for the people of God. Take them in remembrance that Christ died for you, and feed on him in your heart by faith, with thanksgiving.

Calvary Helps Refugees Much thanks to everyone who donated toiletries for Vive La Casa refugees. Joanne Frake and I delivered them to Vive this week, and they were very happy to have them. Vive is the largest refugee shelter in the United States, providing beds for 112 individuals (last year they served more than 3,800 refugees). The toiletry items will be put to good use by the residents. We will continue to collect toiletries for Vive; they can be placed in the bin in the coat room. Thanks again for your generous contributions

Friends of Night People

Friends of Night People, Inc. (FONP) is a non-profit organization that has provided essential supportive services to the homeless, destitute and working poor women, men, children, elderly and disabled of this community. FONP is a significant element of Calvary’s effort in mission for the community. FONP provides free meals, clothing, and referral services daily. Throughout the month medical, eye, and foot clinics are provided through area doctors at their facility. Calvary supports this organization and its activities in several ways: through donations for the purchase of food for the evening meal; donations by its parishioners of clothing and baked goods; and providing volunteers who help serve the evening meal one Sunday every other month. Sunday, February 19, 2012 is the next opportunity for volunteers to serve meals and directly participate in this worthy activity. Please sign up on the sheet at the top of the stairs at the Milton Street entrance or contact Bill Clark (741-9124) with any questions. The web site (http://friendsofnightpeople.com) provides details on the history of the FONP (founded in 1969) and lists additional ways that people can volunteer and contribute to this worthwhile mission.
