Journey with us at the Park UPark Christian Education Classes September 27 – 9:30‐10:30am 

  ADULT FORUM, CORNERSTONE II, AND JOURNEYS IN FAITH will combine for the Meet the Middle East series today. We meet at 9:30am in our East Fellowship Hall.  The Middle School and High School classes will also attend.  (Please see the separate article for details about our Meet the Middle East series with Iman Jodeh). September 27: Ancient History vs. Today’s Headlines This is the final Sunday School class on Meet the Middle East. Middle School and High School will also attend.  On October 4: The adult classes will have a combined class with Rev. Beck in East Fellowship Hall.  The Middle School and High School will resume meeting in their classrooms.      SPECIAL NEEDS  This class meets in the Journeys in Faith Room. This is a combined Journeys in Faith Room  Sunday school class and worship time. This sacred gathering and Lower Level  experiential learning is especially open to those with cognitive Christian Ed Wing  disabilities. We would appreciate volunteer help!  YOUTH CLASSES  Our Middle School class includes 6th‐8th grade youth. The High School  Middle School: B03  class includes youth in 9th‐12th grades. Youth will attend Iman Jodeh’s  High School: Youth  series in East Fellowship Hall. However, PLEASE MEET IN YOUR Lounge  RESPECTIVE CLASS ROOMS FIRST.    CHILDREN’S CLASSES  All children from preschool through 5th grade meet in the Top Level  Music/Movement room at 9:30am. They are dismissed to their Christian Ed Wing  respective areas following a short introduction to the lesson.   September 27‐October 18: Daniel  CHILDCARE  Quality care for newborns to three years or potty trained provided by Nursery  Barbara P‐Walker and a volunteer, 8:15am‐12:15pm. Main Level  September 27 – Early, Theresa Broderick; Late – Nicole Laydon Christian Ed Wing  October 4 ‐ Early, Amy Long; Late, TBD   CHILDREN’S  Children’s Church provided by Christina Pacheco, Mary Worth, and  CHURCH  Hannah Westra. Children ages 3.5 through 3rd grade gather following  East Fellowship Hall  the Children’s Message at the 8:30 & 11:00 services.

 Metro Caring’s Cornucopia benefit takes place on Thursday, October 1, 5:30‐7:30 pm at the EXDO Event Center in the RiNo District (1399‐35th Street). Reservations are necessary. To reserve please call: Diane Felt, 303‐722‐5736; Byron Bowsher, 303‐773‐3854; or Glenn Tuthill, 720‐935‐5456. Or, stop by a card table set up to take reservations Sunday after the 8:30 and 11:00 Services. There is no cost, however donations will be requested at the event. The church van will be used to transport those with reservations; if the van is full, a 

few cars will caravan with the van, leaving our parking lot at 4:45 PM. Our Faith in Action Committee would like a good turn‐out from UPark members! This fundraiser supports one of our key Denver organizations that fights hunger, improves health, and promotes self‐sufficiency for many families and individuals.  

Crosspoints UMW is collecting school items for UMCOR’s Emergency Relief Supply Kits. To contribute items, please bring them to church and place in the designated box in the reception area: 1 pair blunt, rounded‐tip scissors (no plastic); 3 pads spiral or 

top‐bound pads OR 150 sheets loose‐leaf paper (no composition books); 1 hand‐held pencil sharpener at least 1 inch long; 30cm ruler without advertisements, cartoon characters acceptable; 6 unsharpened pencils without ads, designs, symbols; 2” or larger erasers; 24‐count boxes of crayons; 14”X16” heavy‐duty cloth bag without ads, designs, symbols. Contact Nancy Berry with any questions: nancylouberry@comcast.net or 303‐898‐0471.  UMW Conference Annual Meeting is on October 23 and 24 in Alamosa. There are opportunities for various activities of action within the community. Registration forms and information is near the foyer water cooler.   

Friday Bible Study: Bring your own lunch and join Deacon Debby at noon in the  Osborne Parlor each Friday as we chew on the scriptures scheduled to be read and  the topic of Rev. Dale Beck’s sermon for the coming Sunday.  Who knows, you may recognize your insights in his reflection!  

 KIDS CANS FOR KIDS – BRING THOSE ALUMINUM CANS!  Our latest can redemption for 2015 resulted in 65 pounds worth $17.30 for aluminum cans and other miscellaneous metals; for a total of $329.37 thus far this year. We will  continue to send these funds to the Children’s Hospital Chaplaincy Department to supply Bibles for patients and their families including Spanish Bibles and to supply other reading materials for their mobile 

interfaith book cart. NOTE:  Contributors please separate different types of metals as Atlas Metal & Iron Corp—the recycle establishment we use—requires that the different types are separated, weighed and valued individually.

This Week at UPark UMC

WORLD CAFÉ NEEDS VOLUNTEERS: World Café is an informal group of Christians from several churches who prepare a meal for international students from DU (and elsewhere) every Thursday during the academic year.  We offer friendship and hospitality to students who may be half a world away from their homes.  We also 

provide support to The Foundation Ministry at DU, as we receive day‐old bread and pastries from the Panera on Colorado Boulevard and share excess with the hungry in Civic Center Park.          If you have a heart for student ministry or international ministry, or if you would be able to fix a simple meal for 40‐50 people every other month, please let us know.  World Café embodies UPark's four core values: intergenerational, international, interfaith, and inclusive.  Please consider volunteering ‐‐ or at least checking out the program some Thursday at noon starting in September.  We need additional volunteers to cook to keep the burden as light as possible for our current remaining volunteers.        Should you feel called to serve, please contact George Gramer, 303‐945‐1728, GKGJR@AOL.COM.  

UPark presents a Bible Study based on We Make the Road by Walking, the 2014 Brian McLaren book. Brian McLaren was the 2013 speaker at the Rocky Mountain Annual Conference. He’s a prolific writer and a leader in the emergent church movement.  There are 52 chapters that cover a large portion of the Bible through large themes:  Alive in the Story of Creation; Alive in the Adventure of Jesus; Alive in a Global Uprising; 

Alive in the Spirit of God. You may participate in the entirety of the study or on a drop‐in basis. We have three meeting options: 

Sunday Mornings, at 9:30am with Liza Stoltz Hanson in Osborne Parlor. Geared to young adults, young professionals, young‐at‐heart. 

Sunday Evenings, at 6:30pm at our Evanston Center with Rev. Dale Beck  Tuesday Afternoons, at 2 pm in our Osborne Parlor with Rev Debby Lawrence

They’re back! UPark’s UMYF famous Breakfast Burritos!! Our fall burrito making event is Saturday, October 10. Order pick-up is Sunday, the 11th. We are taking orders for plain (scrambled eggs, potatoes, cheese) or fully loaded

(plain plus meat and green chile). The price is $3.00 each. Please pre-order using the forms on the table in the main foyer or

on the table outside of Wasser Chapel. Keep in mind that the burritos freeze well and are a great and easy meal-on-the-go with your family’s busy schedule. Put the form in the offering plate or in Duane’s mailbox in the Work Room. This is a fundraiser for the 2016 Middle
